These things sure are big. I went out with some friends and we ended up getting one. I was using a 9.3x62 with 285gn Norma Oryx bullets. My first shot broke the shoulder and took out part of the aorta upon closer inspection. Backed up by a friend with a .375, we both put a couple more shots into the animal. It dropped 15yds back in the trees. Lots of meat to go around now!

Got my 2022 archery mule deer on Sept 3. I had a really fun 3 days solo camping in some great mule deer habitat. I was only seeing 3 mature deer the whole time and this guy was one of them. The first and second day were very hot and calm, not a good situation for spot and stalk deer hunting.
The third day I got a bit of a break with some wind and a few degrees cooler temp. I saw this guy at first light, I watched him make his first bed for the day very early. It was in a spot that would have been a low percentage stalk. He only bedded there for about 1.5 hours then moved to a small poplar bluff for his next bed to stay in all day in the shade.
I made a good, fairly quick stalk on him and found him in the poplars just browsing before he bedded down. There was a nice low ditch in this particular bluff I was able to get in and stay low out of his sight. I only had to hand an knee for about 80 yards to get within range. One well placed arrow at 56 yards and he only made a death run for about 40-50 yards. I was greatful for the short recovery as it was already getting quite warm and was expected to get I the mid 30's by noon.
