laws of walking out of store with new gun

Legally? Must be unloaded during transport. Must not be concealed while simultaneously not being visible to avoid causing a public disturbance. Yeah, our laws are very convoluted and contradictory at times.

Practically? Keep it unloaded. Carry it around in the manufacturer's box, or either bring (or buy) your own hard/soft case. Simple.

#? For example, what if my car is parked 5 blocks away?
Could you give me an example of a Gun shop in Canada that needs you to park 5 Blocks away?

You ever been to downtown Vancouver? Parking is a b*tch. I imagine the same for Toronto and Montreal.

Sounds like a question a troll would ask. What's legal, isn't always the smart thing to do.

Or maybe someone who isn't as firearm-literate as the average CGNer. Not everyone asking a question you already know the answer to is a troll.

The whole meme of every new-ish account asking a question you feel they should know the answer to being a troll (or liberal spy/journalist/Bill Blair at the local café) is getting so tiresome and does nothing but put folk off of this forum.

Al Flaherty's in Toronto on any Saturday
Al Simmons in Hamilton
Italian Sporting Goods in Vancouver on a busy Saturday
Reliable Gun in Vancouver
Dante's in Montreal
Select Shooting Supplies in Cambridge before they moved to their new location...Lots of parking now though.

This is not an exhaustive list.

And holy moly, Im young and I can remember buying a gun at Bass Pro in Toronto, putting it in my cart, going and getting ammo, putting it beside the gun in my cart, then walking around the store, paying, and out into the parking lot to my car. Times have certainly changed

In a mall? It would be fun to walk around a mall with a newly purchased rifle. If you buy a used gun, there isn't even a manufacturers box to carry it around in.

When I was 13, I bought a used Remington 760 (30-06sprg) from a street front store. Walked to the car with it naked. Didn't even seem odd back then. That said, that street had 3 or 4 gun shops on it, so it was probably a fairly common occurrence.

That'll draw some attentin;)

are you asking what is the law or are you asking what is common sense?

as usual, they are two very different things....

While calling out "This is my rifle, this is my gun, this is for fighting, this is for fun"?

OP - how are you going to transport it when away from the gun tore - say heading to the range? I keep my firearms in a case/bag so that they're not just rattling around on the floor. Suggest you pick one up at the same time you're picking up your new firearm.
Having said that, I did once drop into Lever Arms to pick up a an Ar15 and realize I hadn't brought a case or lock - bought the cheapest thing they had and dismantled the rifle to make it fit.

Back in the early seventies, me and the guys got some extra change cobbled up and went downtown to King Sol at Queen and Bathurst in Toronto.
Got a nice Lee Enfield out of an old barrel for 45 bones along with a couple boxes of Imperial soft points.
So we got on the westbound Queen streetcar headed back towards the Junction and couldn't help ourselves admiring our new score.
Here's 4 teenagers in the back of a PCC streetcar, yakking away while passing around and working the action on our new treasure, while neither the rest of the passengers nor the operator could give a stinkin rat's sphincter about it.

Any new gun I’ve bought at a store came in a factory box, any surplus gun I’ve bought at a store was still in cosmoline and the store gave me a box to put it in as it was greazy as Ricky in From Russia with the love bone lol.

So if it doesn’t come with a box, ask for one. Chances are the store will have one lying around, the only time I bring a case is if it’s a pistol that doesn’t have a factory hard case.

That's a great story, and serves to highlight changes in our society. I view them as bad changes.

in highschool in 89-90 i was working on a school play. we were using my bb pistol as a prop. it was a good all metal one and looked quite realistic.

I remember walking down the hall with it in my hand on the way to the auditorium.

Just before i got there a teacher in the hall said. "whats that?" i said, its a BB gun for the play. he went oh, ok...

Reminds me of how far things slide in such short time.
Last gun show I went to a couple years back in LLoyd was in one half of a hockey arena over a weekend. Bought a .22 Bolt action.
Put it over my shoulder and walked out to my car once I was done browsing for deals.
It was hockey games on the east side rinks of the gun show.
Kida and parents coming up the center of the arena, responsible citizens coming and going with guns. Kids playing hockey. A couple police officers in the center drinking a coffee shot them a smile and nod.

I just walk out of the store with them if I buy them new lol

Just the way it's supposed to be.
