Le Baron Bankrupt ???

Anytime anyone loses a job it saddens me. It also saddens me anytime we lose a hunting shop, but there's a reason I predicted in the Cabela's thread they'd be gone by the end of 2017. The way they ran their business they were almost challenging people not to buy from them.

Use to support them big time but that wS 20 years ago. Went by a few months when returning from EPPs and was disappointed with how small the shooting section has become. Sad to see a outdoor store close.

I remember going in to Le Baron's when they were in the Newtonbrook Plaza in North York. That might date me ;-)

I remember going into that store. I also bought my very first gun (a brand new Nylon Remington Model 77 for $43) at the LeBaron store right in downtown Toronto in around 1973. In the 80's I used to frequent the one on Dundas St. in Mississauga (not the current one) and bought several handguns there as well as a Lyman tumbler that's still working. Used to be an oriental guy there named "Bing" ("like Bing Crosby" he used to say). Nice guy, very helpful and knowledgeable. Someone told me he moved to the Markham store but I don't know if that was true.

I honestly think if someone with some business acumen took over LeBaron, got them a good website with decent online ordering, kept their prices competitive and actually had stuff in stock they could make a very good living. Places like Flaherty's, Fishing World and Al Simmons have been able to survive with much smaller single stores so I have to think it's the management rather than the competition that has killed them. I hate to see any gun store go under, especially one that's been around that long.

This just reminds me the two clowns :eek:ne bald and one with glasses at their Markham store were full of &$;@. Good thing these two are done. I liked their Mississauga store better. Ottawa store has the best staff but nothing in stock. And ordering from their website is almost impossible. They are usually more $$ than other nearby competitors.

It's a loss when any firearms and ammo retailer closes even Le Baron. It's interesting how some people will huff and puff about "throwing gun owners under the bus" but are more than happy to do the same to a long established retailer.

So, I stopped at the Ottawa LeBarons this afternoon. There are already large bankruptcy sale signs in the window and signs proclaiming 50% off (with "up to" in tiny letters). I went in. The store was almost empty of customers, in stark contrast to Cabelas in Kanata. I went into the gun store. I have had my eye on a Ruger 10/22 Takedown. They had one in stock (surprise surprise). However, firearms are only 20% off (that fine print...). With the deduction, it only brought the price down to where normal stores sell the rifle for. I walked out without buying anything.

It is sad to lose any gun store, but LeBarons poor selection, high prices, and surly customer service did them in.

I was planning to stop in on Monday and pick up some .45 ACP. All joking aside I wonder if they'll have any in stock.

Sad to see a retailer go under but we all called this a long time ago with their crappy website, no online sales when all their competitors were doing it for YEARS and which retailer doesn't open on Sundays in the last 24yrs and the running joke that Le Baron was French for Out of Stock?

I recall the old days when LeBaron used to sell handguns and other restricted cool stuff before they went all FUDD.

Too bad there is so much schadenfreude...

I can hardly type this as I am laughing so hard....

It is simply a shame that a rumor was started ( store going bankrupt) rather than simply shutting its doors.
If it truly where bankrupt I certainly could understand the anger .

The Royal PIA for a customer who lost their firearm or money for store credit or any other myriad of reasons when a store goes bankrupt stinks.
Who knows, maybe they decided the space was worth more as residential that commercial retail???

I personally have no idea as to the stores logistics, but it certainly is a shame they are closing their doors and at a poorly timed closing date.
Tolco Ind. in BC has run out of Beetle Kill Pine and stepping up to the plate to help out.

How much help they offer maybe pure PR , but they are not gloating about it , thats for certain.

Tight Groups,
Rob

I remember going to the old Montreal store.

I used to buy a lot of winter gear from them like Woods parkas and sleeping bags.

But the service in the Missisauga store was abysmal.

The two "so called" clowns are David and Vincent and they are two top notch gentelmen in case you didn't know. I had dealt with them for years and they always gave sound advise especially David, I'm sorry you felt this way dealing with them, I know David can be rough around the edges with time waster, but he knows his stuff and have good eye for people.

you hit the nail on the head... I used to go there and buy milsurp pistols and they would just put them on the counter and you could check them out closely etc... that had lots of inventory and decent prices... I bought several milsurp rifles for under a hundred bucks! ($86 Enfield No 4)

Then they went total fudd in the mid 90's... prices went up up up, and the silver haired Asian fellow (Filipino perhaps?) that seemed to be running things here in Ontario was never very friendly. I gave up on them almost 20 years ago. I used to like their little hole in the wall at Finch and Yonge, it was a classic tight little diamond in the rough. When they focused on the big commercialized storefront in Mississauga it was the end for me. I think I went to the one in Markham once about 8 years ago for a box of slugs and saw absolutely ZERO interesting things, and the tight a$$ed old farmers at the gun counter treating you like some young punk even though you are clean cut and middle-aged.. LOL Total lack of vision, and they went out like chumps (KODAK anyone?)

screw LeBaron..

rant over :)

I've never had a pleasant shopping/trying to shop experience at LeBaron's, even when I bought ammo at a good price (the clerk was #####y). Arrogant staff. Totally different from my experience at any other retailer I've dealt with.
