Least favourite cartridge?

For me the 45-70 is the worst cal I have owned. My long bow can shot farther and quicker, sure it may hit something like a Mack truck but that's about it. I wish I didn't get sucked into the hype, should of listened and purchased the .375 H&H instead.

I like both both the rounds you talk about. But there is a big differance between the two, any reloader should know that. Comparing a 45/70 to a long bow, time to give your head a shake and start reloading my friend.

I would choose a 375 over a 45/70 as well, but I would also take a .223 over a .22.(just a comparison, dont read into it too much)

In my opinion the 45/70 and the .375 are two different evils, but both work great in thier intended evironments :D

I can't seem to find a BP load ( or match for that matter) for the .375H&H that uses a 500 grain cast bullet and 67 grains of black!:runaway:
Otherwise, the .375 is pretty cool, but bowhere as cool as the 45/70!!:dancingbanana: :dancingbanana:

45/70

The longbow comment was given as a joke, The 45/70 I owned did not have any range at all. The gun just wasn't for me. I guess if you reload it your self it might work better but I sold it to fund a 375 H&H instead. I'm just getting into reloading.

Yup, factory 45/70 loads stink. But if you reload they are a whole new animal ;)

My least favorite cartrige would have to be the 30-30. The 270 is a close second. They have never impressed me for hunting. I would much rather use a 308 for Deer/Moose.

I'd have to say 243 with 308 as a close runner up.
Actually maybe I like 308 least because it spawned the 243 Win, which is the most overhyped cartridge in Australia, and the 260 Rem, the cartridge that re-invented the wheel.
7mm-08 is more of the same too.
Give me a 6.5x55 or 7x57 anyday.
The 308 case spawned a whole range of cartridges and rifles that were "better" just because they were short action and high pressure.
Sorry guys, I don't believe the hype.
So the 303 has had it's time, eh?
Well, who is still running a V8 in their vehicle, because most of the technology in them is heading for 100 years old too.
Museum indeed you, cheeky bastard! :p

Let's talk with facts, cheap talk is cheap talk. Throw any pix of anything shot with 303 carbine or SKS up here and that clears up all the junk talk. Now here are two pix of a "little dink" buck shot by SKS with one bang two weeks ago, at least 230 lbs. If you want pix of bears dropped by SKS, I can show you too.

I don't carry my gun after dinner time, walk in dark and go shoot some little rabbit with a cannon and leave it without eating it for christ's sake. And I don't claim that I've never lost one game in my life. Show us something you shot with your 303 carbine.

Have a life.

You probably ran that critter over with your rusty old Dodge , and then capped the poor bastard with the sks junk. Probably a night time venture too eh?

What kind of bullsit is this?

Why don't you ####ing grow up and realize that it is more important for a man learns to use his gun properly, than the gun itself?

Rolllingrock had some trouble the first time out, he learned his lesson, took his lumps, did some thinking, changed his tactics, and now dropped a very respectable buck. And he did it with a cheap battle rifle. Good for him.

Your continuous rants about SKS rifles just make you look like a child.

You already admitted to questionable after hours hunting practices, that's enough for me. You basically admitted to being a poacher on an internet forum , so your credibilty is NIL.

That was just your dream.

There have been many kills with the 303, big bull moose have fallen to the 303 Jungle Carbine using 215 grain RN bullets.Big mulies and bears and all way before digital cameras. I have taken a few moose with my old 1916 No1MKIII with factory ammo and reloads. The facts are, I have never lost an animal. But I have taken more than one shot to ground the critter but still never lost it. After 30 plus years of hunting, I would say that's damn good, not bragging. Seven out of ten were one shot kills by using a big enough gun and not having to machine gun the critter into burgers to kill it.
If you happen to look in the hunting pics section you will see a nice blacktail taken on the Island, I believe that one was taken with my old JC before I sold it.

The Hunter makes a Cartridge Great !
The Cartridge does not make the Hunter Great !

A Dork is still a Dork ! No matter what He uses :)

I Love ALL Cartridges.......they ALL have a Place

Nice Buck too BTW !

303 British. It's not really the cartridge, but I shot an old EATONS Enfield, when my buddies had 88s, 99s 70s etc etc, I felt left behind. NEVER got over that.
