Legalities of cutting a rifle barre already under 18 inches

That the stupidest thing ever. What a bunch of clowns.

The clowns are the people who wrote the law. In this case, at least, I side with the RCMP interpretation. They COULD conceivably interpret the law in a stricter way such that any swapping of short barrels onto an action is prohibited. But that probably wouldn't fly in court; the general rule is that a vague statute is decided in favour of the defendant.

Anyways, we should sticky one of these many barrel length threads in the Legalese section if there isn't one already.

No if you even chamberd that 4 inches that was cut off you would have a prohibited barrel cause any handgun with a barrel less than I believe 41/4 inches is prohib

No it can’t be a rifle barrel any barrel 4 inches or under is prohib in canada ask dlask to make you a 4 inch barrel for anything and it’s gonna not a chance

There is a world of difference between any barrel under 4 inch being legally considered a handgun barrel, and dlask not wanting to take a chance.

That is quite the irrefutable argument there lol.

Personally I figure that the words in the criminal code specifying that only handgun barrels equal to or under 105mm are prohibited devices mean exactly that, but I could be wrong.

Ahhh, too bad Rick got banned. Hope he gets back in soon. I’ve appreciated his past posts. Emotions run high in these trying times.
There have plenty of threads dissecting the legalities of cutting down barrels. Usually found in the Legalese forum. No need for this animosity in the Gunsmithing forum.
