LEO discount frustration

Well thanks for showing your true colours so we know there's no need to waste much time with you. Something about the police and we'll drag out the Nazi stuff. Way to keep it original. ;)

My wife gets cost + 10% at sportchek. Our baby carrier thing cost her 250$ instead of 600$. Wolverine gives me 5%, which I rarely mention since my orders are not significant enough to make a couple bucks matter. Do us a favour, call sportchek and put in a complaint. McDonalds gets half price too.

I'll bow out now while I count my millions saved off 5%.

↑↑↑↑↑↑ Awesome!

Before it does get locked , I'm curious . I joined up , but I only have one nut , does that mean I only get half the discount . An uncomfortable question I know , but I feel it needed to be asked .
By the by , my best wishes to all Forces members , LEO's and first responders , you are the best of us ............. not me ........... you know , the one nut thing ........ cough .

A Happy and Hopeful New Year to you all .

Now would be a good time to lock this one out .

Only one nut would qualify you for an additional 15% discount. ;)

Wow, it's rare I am at a loss for words. 158 soldiers die in the last ten years, mostly by getting blown up or shot and you think the police have it rough? You ever see what an IED does to a lav and the people inside? Ever hear the expression,"human soup"? Yea cops have it bad all right, beating up mouthy drunks or taking pot from kids in parks. Yea hard day at the office I guess. Most cops die whle driving most are texting while driving. The chances of being turned to human soup or being targeted for what they do are almost nil.

I appreciate your Service but not your Generalised comments about Police. I and many of my Comrades served for many years with distinction as Proud Police Officers and also lost Friends on the job (not while texting by the way), four that I knew personally and one was my Son all Murdered. I won't compare any of my experiences with you as it would seem you would likely one up me anyway.

Words cannot express your loss and my appreciation for your service and your sons and what it cost you both . Thank You .

Well in Canada it’s illegal to solicite a discount because you are a police officer or any other government employee. So by simply asking for a discount you are breaking the law. In the states it is not against the law. So if a company decides to take money out of their own pocket and give it to you for doing your job, on top of their taxes that pays your wage then take it and shut up.

Surprises me that people go and apply for a JOB and get it, then b!tch when they can’t abuse their power to get discounts on their hobby. It’s not like you will be using the scope or gun you get a discount on at work or on duty.

And before anyone gets all “in the line of fire” “life is always on the line” on anyone, just remember that in 2015 alone 852 trades people died doing their jobs. No parades, no memorials, nada

Do plumbers and subway sandwich artists get a discount at the gun store? Hell if I buy car parts for a customer I get a discount for resale and I get a totally different price that joe blow public gets if I buy for personal use.

And if you don’t believe me about not being able to ask for a discount then ask your commanding officer or supervisor.

Not to offend or sound like I'm lessening any deaths, but tradespeople aren't generally sent into warzones or called into situations where people are actively being a threat. If I have a guy swinging a knife around in my laundry room threatening people, the plumber doesn't have to go in there.

Granted there are many trades people who's jobs I wouldn't want to do for various reasons, but we can't blanket compare apples to oranges. If we want to get into specifics sure. The underwater welder sure is more dangerous than the file clerk private on Cold Lake airbase, same as my routine is compared to your every day plumber.

There's also more tradespeople than police and military I'm sure, so straight up numbers doesn't really mean anything.

It's all semantics anyway. There's a lot of wild accusations going around, and so far one person, the OP, has said anything about it not being fair. Most others seem fairly level headed about it (except the guy who pulls out the nazi references  ), and as has been pointed out by others, such as the diver, there are far more significant discounts for other professions anyway.

It's a non issue really. If someone of any profession goes into a business demanding a discount, well they're the joker. Why can't we be adults about this and point fingers at people rather than groups. I don't think I deserve a discount just for what I do for a job, unless I was buying vortex scopes for a thousand work rifles. Then maybe I would expect something for a a bulk price. Until then, if you don't like the price shop elsewhere, or wait for a sale.
