BSSER .. yup

Lucky

So should we call you a BSSER?? Just kidding. Nice looking pair of guns. Now you'll have to start on the Winchester model 23's if you want another nice handling gun.

I posted this in the flintlock photos thread, but I figured there might be a few folks who don't stray into the dark side, so here it is again:
My 16ga flint double. I'm at least the third owner, and I haven't been able to find anything about the builder. Seven pounds even, 29" barrels, cut-away breeches, double-tapered L&R Manton locks. I love it, but nothing's perfect - the left lock has a couple of things that could stand working on and the bores are rather rough.

My cousin had a real nice over and under. Not sure what kind it is... He won it at some kind of ducks unlimited thing on a goose hunt in PEI. I don't even know where the gun ended up... He was lost at sea last February. I assume his father still has it.

May as well get this thread back to the top!

Here's my new (to me) Browning BSS that I picked up from a fellow CGNer. It's a first year manufacture with a Silver trigger, originally chambered for 2 3/4" with mod/full barrels, but has been professionally rechambered to 3", forcing cones have been lengthened, and the chokes have been opened up to IC/IC for shooting steel shot. May make a decent little skeet gun as well! Gun is in excellent shape, and fits me like a glove. May be a little on the heavy side for carrying all day for Upland, but I'm sure I'll do it!

Can't wait to bust some birds with it during late goose, and next fall!

Saw one bust some bunnies this past weekend. A spritely gun indeed! ;)

All best wishes for success with the surgery. Sounds like quite a common place procedure these days and with excellant results. On my last type II diabetes check up, I was told there are the beginning signs of cataracts so it's something I'll have to deal with down the road. You mentioned engraving on firearms. I assume that is on the metal work, or is it carving of the wood work?
A short while back, my wife & I spent a few days on the west coast of the island, hoping to do a bit of storm watching. No luck but walking around in Tofino, in a native art shop down by the waterfront, I picked up a couple of books, to help me understand the meaning of aspects of that art form. One is titled 'Learning By Doing' and the other, 'Learning By Designing'. Both are written by Jim Gilbert and Karin Clark. Very interesting to say the least.

I already had one Eye done the surgery is very simple and you will be amazed at the difference it will make

I working metal wood and stone even known to carve a little bit of ivory and whalebone
There is a couple examples of old muskets that were engraved and stock beautifully carved in the West Coast style
Up to a couple years ago I was engraving just about everything I could get my hands on till my eyes got too bad
It's hard to be patient when I know that soon I will be able to pick up my tools again!
