Let's see some pic's of your SxS's & O/U's

mooncoon, do you reload to shoot your pinfires? Is that a modern shell adapted for pinfire I see in the picture?

This thread is too far from the top....

Here is a pretty one, built by W.P. Jones.

There doesn't seem to be much information readily available about this maker so I thought I'd share and see what I can learn.

The gun is a SLE with 100%(?) engraving coverage consisting of many different styles of engraving.

Decorated with all the bells and whistles of the time:
- Ejectors (Deely)
- Side clips
- heel and toe plates

I do not recall ever seeing lock plates this shape, anyone else?

I look forward to your comments

W.P. Jones was a Birmingham maker in business from 1881 to roughly 1965. There were a few moves and a name change during the life of the company, so the address that should be engraved on the rib would help narrow down the time period when this gun was made. Judging from appearances, I would say that this is a pre-WW I gun that has seen a lot of use.

This is a back-action side-lock, hence no forward extension on the lockplate, with a Greener crossbolt extension. It is the number 2 gun of a pair, and it looks like somebody has removed the gold inlay from the "2" on the rib.

I'm a bit hesitant to declare this a "best" gun, because of the back-action lock and the Greener crossbolt, neither of which were typically used on best guns, even of the prewar period. On the other hand, the level of engraving is certainly befitting a "best" gun.

Pics of the proof marks, and any hidden markings on the action and the address would help narrow down the date.

Mark, every time I see it, that crazy engraving on the Jones gets me. How much life left in the barrels? You've measured them no doubt.

I love my Browning SxS's

All are 12's ....... Hope to add a 20 and a BSS sidelock ....... any out there for sale???

I had a 12ga pistol grip non-selective BSS, shot it well but found it too heavy for me to carry all day. I do have a 20ga Sporter w selective trigger but can't hit squat with it. The english stock just does not ( fit) agree with me, drives me nuts as I have always loved the look of an english stocked SxS, have drooled over the BSS Sidelocks and othe fine Spanish guns like AYA # 2,s. Last chance for it is going to lengthen the LOP and see if that works out( it was already Bubba'ed with a poorly done recoil pad) or off to auction in Oct.

Picked this up off the EE in the spring. Had it sent away to be completely restored and got it back yesterday. It's from around 1890 and is a light, wonderful handling gun. Hard to believe it's a 12 gauge.

Brian, that turned out pretty well. Looks great!

Was out to Delta this past weekend, inspecting the DU project. I hardly recognize the place. Were you at your place? Saw a few cars in the drive.

My photography doesn't really do the gun justice. Looks even better in hand. Yes, I was out at the cabin. Actually was hunting on the north shore of Clandeboye saturday morning.

Saturday was kind of a blue bird day. Any luck? I saw lots flying around. Did you use the Smith? I was a bit understated in my previous post. I really think it looks fantastic.
