Lets see some pics of your Tacticool VZ 58/858s

I haven't posted here often, but I finally got around to getting some photos of my 'fun gun.'

Credit to Dmitry for the excellent job on making the wood buttstock, it's a perfect fit. The handgaurds are ironwood design, meant for the Ak74 platform; I've had them since before they offered the new Vz cut. I used to be running a pistol grip and a 74-style stock with a metal bracket for the classic Kalashnikov look, but I have to iron out the wobble when I get access to a garage again. Eastwave optics sourced the 4x24 scope, and I've got a habit of cutting down the new plastic eye-relief things, so that's why it might look strange.

Everything's solid, the handguards had to be filed down on the inside to fit over the Vz gas block, tight enough that I'm going to have a fun time getting them off in one piece. The muzzle brake is Dlask's XB3, which is phenomenal, I can't reccomend it enough. I also finally gave in recently and installed an extended mag release, and I don't know how I managed without it.

I will eventually have to do something about the "clip goes PING, scope goes DING" issue. The last Posp I used had all manner of nicks along it's underside.

I'm not much of a photographer, but here are the latest versions of my three - the sand/tan-colored one is an unrestricted 858, the other two are a restricted Vz58 and a CSA subcompact. I still need to add a small optic to the CSA...

They look great

On your 7.5" shorty, how did you mount that rail to put the vertical grip on??

Rimfire-to-picatinny adapter mounted on the bayonet attachment. Had to grind a bit off of the bayo mount to make it work, but - although I hate being Bubba - as you can't fit a bayonet on these subcompacts anyway, I wasn't too concerned about it.

The mount I bought for it is a cheapie UTG; now that I know the principle works, I think I'm going to pick up a better mount :)

would you mind posting some pics showing how you did it. I like it alot and was considering doing this to but had not thought how to do it.

I don't want to take it off, as the mount is pretty cheap and I've already slightly stripped one of the hex bolts trying to cinch it down enough, but here are a couple close-ups of it mounted. Basically you just need to grind the bayo mount flat, and then take a bit more off the whole thing to make it thin enough for the rimfire mount to grip it. In the first pic, you can see that it's still not quite thin enough to grip properly, but I didn't want to take any more metal off the gun - I think I'll try grinding a bit out of the adapter itsef so it fits better...

I suspect this UTG rail isn't strong enough to hold up under use, but I'll let you know after I try it on Saturday. If it comes loose, I'll take a couple of closeups of the modified bayo mount before I grind this rail adapter down more, or buy another rail adapter to try :D

UPDATE: The mount worked well, after I ground a bit more off of it so that it had a bit more purchase on the bayo mount. It didn't come loose at all. I still want to take a bit more off of it, though, as it sits at a slight angle at this point. Still, it is a viable option for mounting a VFG :)

What did you use for glass... I can't quite make out?

And how does the long eye relief work for you?

Hi, the glass is a Leupold FX-II 2.5x28mm IER mounted on high burris XTR rings. The scope has 9-17" non-critical eye relief...on the my set up eye relief is around 11" and it works great. Allows me to shoot with both eyes open. Target aquisition is pretty quick. I find the scout scope to be a good compromise between a red dot reflex type sight and a traditional scope. Also with the rings I used I am fully able to use the irons whenever I want...the whole set up still weighs in at around 9lbs. My original inspiration was the Kalishni-Scout by Gabe Suarez. Here is a link if you want to check it out.
