Lets see some pics of your Tacticool VZ 58/858s

Where did you obtain this "NEA Low Tube Stock Adapter"?

HG :

Its the standard NEA low tube adapter.

I think the reason that It may look a little different is that I have a Neit Arms ambi Mash hook sling plate in between the adapter and the receiver. This sling plate can also be used with the standard fixed stock.

I shoot left handed, and as a result the built in sling adapter is on the wrong side. I did have to get a little creative with the adapter bolt as the stock one was not long enough. To be honest I am no sure if these are still available, but they are a great upgrade for not that much cash.

Here is a closer look, and I hope the above helps

Thanks AB. I had that adapter on my 858 before I stripped it down and sold it off. Looks great, but I had to loc-tite the f*ck out of it, as it both the main bolt and buffer tube came loose repeatedly during Fighting Rifle last year. I also had a very hard time getting a proper cheekweld and aquiring the sights, it seemed like there was one small "sweet spot" where I had sight picture, but it was impossible to maintain, or aquire quickly. I'll have a CSA 11.8" carbine here in the next few weeks and I'm looking to do an ACE folder, or Galil style folder on it, but I'm worried about getting sight picture on it as well. I'll post pics when I make a decision and find what works.

I think the cheek weld/sight picture issue is a body type issue. Some people have it, some don't.

I had the same problem, NEA adapter and the original iron sights don't work together. The sights seem to be too low. The original stock slopes down quite a bit from where it attaches to the receiver to the butt plate. Works great with the cantilever mount and any optics.

It is not my intent to derail this thread, so if necesary mods, please feel free to cut and paste these commments in a new thread.

HG & 31B:

I must admit you comments are most interesting. I am new to the 858 platform, but I have spent a lot of time building and training with the AR platform. As these adaptors seem to be an effort to meld AR & 858 ergonomics I feel comfortalbe Sharing some thoughts.

On the AR platform I have really come to appreciate a lower 1/3 co-witness of iron sights (folding or otherwise). For myself personally it allows a clear unimpeeded sight picture which allows quick aquisition and shot placement on a target. With the multitude of optic and riser options out there for the AR platform, its a reltivly easy task to find something that will work, and still have an asteically pleasing carbine.

However the 858 is a different kettle of fish all together. When I put the above rig togehther (Using the NEA straight tube adaptor), I used an aimpoint H-1 micro with the stock mount. It allowed a very low compact package. The co-witness, seemed to me to be much lower than an absolute CW. I found the sight picture extremely cluttered, and difficult to get a good cheekweld that would allow for use of the optic and the standard Iron sights. To be fair, When using my AR, I prefer more of a heads up style of sighting, rather than the old school "hunker down Cheek weld".

Further I did not shoot this configuration much, but the builder in me was really concerned with maitaning a tight fthe buffer tube to adaptor fit and preventing stock turn. That being said, the end result of what NEA put out is very asticially pleasing.

I have more resources (in term of optics, mounts and parts) than most, and I worked endlessly at trying to get a configuration that pleased me. Belive it or not at this point I have gone with a low ring mounted Aimpoint Comp M-3, on a set of NEA handguards, retained the mash hook adaptor sling plate, simply gone back to the Barfwood stock. I have not had a chance to shoot this set up, but my "work shop" dry fire testing, seem to have given me the sight picture and consistant cheek weld I want. My only concern is the stock angle. While it give me a better sight picture, its desing will lend itself to more "muzzle flip", and I have the feeling a very good baffle style break will be required to keep this carbine on target for quick follow up shots. The down side to this is that a good break has very little flash hiding capablity, which impede target re-acuistion in low light shooting.

Well These are my thoughts, and look forward to any constructive comments you might have.

AbH

Edited to add:

It is not my intent to "Put-down" or demean the NEA product in any way. I am very glad and exited that we have a home grown manufatureing solution to the need for accesorries for this platform. I am simply sharing what my experiences with it have been and how their products are working for me!!

I found the NEA "Crusader" break to mitigate muzzle flip the best. I also considered going back to the original stock, but decided that I didn't use the non-restricted status of the 858 at all and given the type of shooting the platform would be used for, I opted to sell it and go for a more compact rifle. We'll see how that works out. Because this is a picture thread, here is a pic of my rifle, that was parted out and sold. Kind of a patrol rifle look.

HG :

Intersting, I will have to give the Crusader break a try.

As you have reminded me, this is a picture thread (my bad) The following is a configuration modeled after our own DMcFaul's carbine, that in a fit of stupidity I sold. I really likes how the Stormwerkz adaptor (none folding), the Neit ambi Mash hook sling plate, and the Ace AKFX stock worked on this one in conjuction with the AK grip. The height was maginaly different, but it seemed to work very well for me.

Wish I could get that stock back!!

I'm interested in doing a set-up with that stock and the Stormwerkz folding adapter. I'd like to try it before I buy it though, as it's not a cheap option.

Also thinking about the Fab Defense folding stock mechanism with an AR stock. I think that setup keeps the stock canted downwards.

so my buddy's gun came back from dlask after moving the sight back and add in a fake can.

Already posted here once but I made some slight modifications so I'm hoping it's okay to throw up some new pictures. Sorry, I suck at taking pictures.

I found that after being opened and closed a couple times, and a few range trips the Stormwerkz folder has just as much play as the factory folder. Overall I wasnt as impressed as I thought I would be. I ran the straight adaptor and had to mount the stock as low as possible to get a good cheek weld/iron sight picture which meant poor cheek weld with optics or spending the time to move the stock back up. The rubber buttpad grips the shoulder well but overall improvement wasnt worth the money for me. Currently searching other ideas...:ar15:

Did you contact them? I think you got a bad one. I have had one for almost 2 years and folded/opened it hundreds if not thousands of times and it is still rock solid.

I would suggest contacting Josh at StormWerkz for an exchange
