HG & 31B:
I must admit you comments are most interesting. I am new to the 858 platform, but I have spent a lot of time building and training with the AR platform. As these adaptors seem to be an effort to meld AR & 858 ergonomics I feel comfortalbe Sharing some thoughts.
On the AR platform I have really come to appreciate a lower 1/3 co-witness of iron sights (folding or otherwise). For myself personally it allows a clear unimpeeded sight picture which allows quick aquisition and shot placement on a target. With the multitude of optic and riser options out there for the AR platform, its a reltivly easy task to find something that will work, and still have an asteically pleasing carbine.
However the 858 is a different kettle of fish all together. When I put the above rig togehther (Using the NEA straight tube adaptor), I used an aimpoint H-1 micro with the stock mount. It allowed a very low compact package. The co-witness, seemed to me to be much lower than an absolute CW. I found the sight picture extremely cluttered, and difficult to get a good cheekweld that would allow for use of the optic and the standard Iron sights. To be fair, When using my AR, I prefer more of a heads up style of sighting, rather than the old school "hunker down Cheek weld".
Further I did not shoot this configuration much, but the builder in me was really concerned with maitaning a tight fthe buffer tube to adaptor fit and preventing stock turn. That being said, the end result of what NEA put out is very asticially pleasing.
I have more resources (in term of optics, mounts and parts) than most, and I worked endlessly at trying to get a configuration that pleased me. Belive it or not at this point I have gone with a low ring mounted Aimpoint Comp M-3, on a set of NEA handguards, retained the mash hook adaptor sling plate, simply gone back to the Barfwood stock. I have not had a chance to shoot this set up, but my "work shop" dry fire testing, seem to have given me the sight picture and consistant cheek weld I want. My only concern is the stock angle. While it give me a better sight picture, its desing will lend itself to more "muzzle flip", and I have the feeling a very good baffle style break will be required to keep this carbine on target for quick follow up shots. The down side to this is that a good break has very little flash hiding capablity, which impede target re-acuistion in low light shooting.
Well These are my thoughts, and look forward to any constructive comments you might have.

AbH

It is not my intent to "Put-down" or demean the NEA product in any way. I am very glad and exited that we have a home grown manufatureing solution to the need for accesorries for this platform. I am simply sharing what my experiences with it have been and how their products are working for me!!
