Lets see some pics of your Tacticool VZ 58/858s

Mine is wearing a modified Tapco AK "galil" forend, Tapco AK grip, Tapco paintball gun folding stock (something intended for an A5 I think) and a home made piston cover.

The front sight was removed, chopped and welded to the gas block... I still have to figure out a new dust cover/peep sight arrangement to retain the original sight radius. I made up my own extended bolt and mag release tabs that were added to the original units. The brake/FH was home made as well as a new trigger guard/grip flange to accommodate the profile of the AK grip...

When it is "done" I might send it out for a proper refinish in something tougher than rattlecan enamel or try a better quality home finish.

May I ask how you modded the Tapco Galil lower? I think that looks outstanding!

Wow my first post!!!

Its fairly heavily modified... I ordered the part and was shocked when it showed up and I saw how large it was. The re-working was done on the fly figuring that if I messed it up it wasn't a big loss...

The grip was cut in half down the center casting line. The halfs were evenly reduced in thickness on a belt sander until together they matched the width of the front of the CZ receiver.

Short alignment pins were added to the split seam to hold it in place when re-assembled.

The profile of the re-assembled unit was cut down and shaped to interface with the front of the receiver and lower the overall height.

The upper insert was cut down and re-shaped to fit in the narrower hand guard. I left enough extra material to form new "nubs" that would fit in corresponding retaining holes that I drilled into the cut down hand guard.

The remaining front and rear mounting flanges were reshaped as necessary to fit the rear retaining cross pin/receiver and modified front retaining plate (modified with a new bezel).

The two halfs are only held together by the alignment pins and the fact that the receiver/front flange sandwich the parts together when all is stacked up.

... Clear as mud...?

I should have taken progress pic's but it was an experiment/made up as I went along and the outcome/process was never really known in advance. Overall its about 1/2"-3/4" lower and 1/4"-3/8" narrower than the stock unit.

Hopefully some pic's can convey the gist up the work... if you count the ridges in the side of the grip you can see how it has been cut down and shaped to fit.

what was required to fit that tapco ak style grip?

I cut away the old trigger guard and grip flange and fabricated a new guard and flange. The AK grip has a rectangular top profile with rounded off corners whereas the stock CZ grip is more streamlined and tapers inward at the front end. the AK grip would not fit into the CZ flange unless it was reshaped to a CZ profile. I chose to fabricate a new flange/guard to simulate a more "factory" appearance.

Wow, I was considering getting the same AK handguards until you posted all the work involved. If it was just a bit of dremel work, I'd be up for the challenge, but I think I'll stick to actual 858 handguards.

Great work though. Looks amazing. Probably the the best looking handguard I've seen in this thread that doesn't have a grip on it.

Cz858 with wood furnature

I finally got my wood furnature from IronWood and installed it. Below is the CZ Family together (my new pistol).

Notice I put small rails on the forestock for future attachments.

I used Golden Pecan as a stain and gave it several layers of Diamond Hard satin coating. It's lighter than I wanted, but the contrast looks nice.

Here's my complete collection:

What's that at the top? Oh my, it's out of the closet!! My Enfield No5 is seeing the light of day!!!:D

Nice collection JRW (QOR)

That CZ 75 and your CZ858 look good together. Like the wood furniture look. My next CZ rifle or carbine may sport that style.

.

Milt, that is awesome! I had thought about doing the same thing, but never got around to following through with it... I may have to revisit this, after seeing yours!
