Let's see your C7 clones! (and C8 clones too, I guess...)

I could so easily build a C8... just not sure I want to buy yet ANOTHER AR right now... :(

Probably I'll buy the next M16A1 upper I see though... just in case I decide to do this later.

This is as close as I can to get mine to look like a C7A2 Clone. Otis grip kit, Ambi everything, Norgon ambi mag catch, ambi cocking handle. accu-wedge. Ambi selector. Even has the correct A2 mount for the C79. Still looking for an original new style bayonet, so the M9 will have to do until then. The receiver is a Bushmaster "Law Enforcment/Military only" model.

That is what I call a clone! Well done

The barrel on his C8A3 clone looks too thick to mount the triad. I had the same problem when I made a C7A2 clone with a stag HBAR 20'' upper.

How do you figure? The FSB in his pics all appear to be the standard .750". I can't explain why you had difficulty since the FSB on your Stag should be .750" as well.

+1. The Triad journals on the FSB mounting area between the pin bosses. .750" is standard one all but M16A1 pencil barrels and some benchrest barrels.

Dont worry.... They fit juuuust fine. :D

Claven 2: The selectors are DPMS ambis drilled and tapped to take a capscrew so they look like the Diemaco (but won't allow a slamfire).

I hope that A1 carry handle upper hurries up and arrives before this becomes a C8A1!
I don't wanna HAVE TO buy another Elcan

Yes. I know, I know. I know I need a different selector, one without the notch, and the lower shouldn't have FIRE and SAFE on the right side

That actually looks pretty cool, never seen that done before.

Why would you replace the selector? Notched ones are correct for the C8. You're right about the markings of course but you're pretty limited in what you can do, short of buying one of the clones.

Did you somehow shorten the ambi side of the selector? The DPMS ones are longer that what you show on your rifle (I have several of them).

As an update, I did order a Bushmaster C7-type upper from Wolverine last week. $225 plus tax and ship. 1 or 2 month wait for it to get imported. Not too bad.

I also picked up a CL DPMS M4 bbl, apart from only being 1:9, everything else is right on it. I'll be re-profiling the bbl fwd of the FSB to original C8 profile and re-parkerizing it.

Who am I kidding? I love a build project - even better if I get to use the lathe at the same time.

Anyone know if anyone in Canada is retailing the Eotech brand (or superior equivalent) of A1/A2 carry handle cantilever mount?

Also, how common is it to see a C7A1 with TRIAD or ambit controls these days? Still happening, or is it only the C7A2 rifles seen with these features nowadays?

PRI makes a good goose neck mount. Wolverine carries the brand and should be able to order it. Make sure they get the regular one as they also make one that clears the fatter m4 handguards. Of course that may make it lower third co-witness, hmm.....

Not a big deal - IF I get one, it will be to mount an XPS to the retro-C8 I'm building. It uses single-shield Colt skinny hand guards, so no clearance issues there.

Depending how my C8 turns out, I *MIGHT* dump my 7.5" PDW as the C8 will be oh so much lighter with the gov't profile pencil bbl and standard HG's over my modern aluminum railed HBAR PDW... if I sell the PDW, I'll want the option of a HWS on the C8... decisions, decisions... For 3-gun and tactical carbine, lighter = BETTER.
