Let's see your C7 clones! (and C8 clones too, I guess...)

OK, well as an update I decided to re-configure my C7A1 clone to an Afghanistan "Roto 0" C7A1, just before the C7A2 became wide issue.

Basically It's a clone of a C7A1 with the optional ambidextrous controls installed (Norgon mag release, ambit selector, ambit CH... I'm a lefty - lol) and a Diemaco TRIAD mount, but no green furniture, No Elcan A2 optic mount and no 4-position green Fiberite stock. It also is wearing a C7/C7A1 simple sling vs. the crappy Patrol Sling that's now almost ubiquitous.

What do you guys think?

Shown with the original cotton Elcan cover and the later (but now obsolete) rubberized cover. They issue a newer one now with a pull-tab for quick removals IIRC...

Looks good man......I dont recall that cocking handle on mine on Roto 0 though..........

...Nice sling btw. Looks good ;)

Did you ask for it? The ambi latch has been available at the armorer level since before the C7A2 was issued in any numbers.

Not many ppl seem to ask for it though. They tend to catch on webbing and break your CH if you're not careful. It's an unpopular part, but is "correct" for an ambidextrous C7

I have a Thermold en-route for photo purposes (though not really right for Roto 0) and I'll eventually swap out the M16 hand guard for a Thermoset shiny C7 hand guard (also en-route).

The only C7A2 part we had on the C7A1 for Roto 0 was the Triad mount, no ambi stuff. Now throw on a 6P with Z32 bezel and a tape switch in a weaver ring and you've got a good Roto 0 clone.

Hell, even when we got the A2's there were an awful lot of them without ambi controls. I remember guys who were left handed asking if they could get the parts on their rifle and the CQ basically blew them off.

Still now I can't always get ambi controls as a lefty. That is stupid. Almost brought my own parts but that is a no no... :( At least my Norgon mag catch...

OK, well in theory the WT's could supposedly add ambi controls for left-handed personnel. Whether they did very often or not...?

I would add a Surefire, but honestly, it would only be added weight for cosmetic purposes. I actually shoot this rifle and I don't need a surefire at the range.

I don't need a TRIAD either, but in theory I could use it to mount a bipod or something - lol.

Calvin2, where did you get the ambi mag release?

The Diemaco ambi release is just a Norgon mag release build under license by Colt Canada. Externally they are visually identical (the diemaco logo is not visible when installed on real ones), so just install a Norgon and you have an ideal clone.

I get my Norgons from Brownells, but ATRS has them also (site sponsor).

Not cheap. About $100-$140 each.

Just waiting on my Thermold now to post new pics. I did get some real C7 HG's and installed them, so she's that much closer. The HGs in the pics are actually fibre-reinforced M16A2 hand guards, not thermoset Cy HGs - that's now been remedied :)

Originals are out there but VERY rare. Most came from the US where Diemaco sold excess parts to Colt USA.

Very close copies can be had from DPMS and Bushmaster. Talk to Wolverine.
