Let's see your C7 clones! (and C8 clones too, I guess...)

I have a 14.5 inch Colt Barrel that I want to turn into the correct profile to make a C8 clone.

I know I have the option to make the OD under the gas block to fit either a 0.625" or 0.750" FSB but does anyone have any info on the barrel profile? Was the early o.625" a government profile and the latter 0.750" a heavy barrel. Any one have any correct dimensions?

Contact Craftsman441. He has the dimensions. I personally wouldn't use a 14.4" Colt because you'll destroy the value of the barrel. I'd much rather use a Bushmaster, Windam, etc...

The later .750 was really a pencil profile but with a .750 FSB. It was one the profiles being looked at during the XM4 program.

Thank you for your help.

I'm using a Colt barrel since that is all I own and don't want to have to go through the hassle of selling one just to source another. I also can sleep at night knowing at least the clone barrel came from the same family. haha

Just a heads up that a Colt N1 stock would be more accurate with the tube reinforcements. Good catch on everything else, looks like you've got the dimpled takedown pins?

Not if he is reproducing the first issued C8. They were all aluminum stocks when they were first issued. N1 stocks were replacements to replace damaged aluminum ones latter on.

Top photo appears to show .625" FSB so I stand corrected. What unit was that taken at? Looks like C8FTHBs in the racks as well so 2004 or later. That C8 appears to have seen relatively little use. All the ones at my last unit were heavily worn on the outside from field use.

The .750" FSB can be made out on the left rifle in the bottom photo.

I've never seen a .625" in service, at least not in 2CMBG. All the ones I've seen in lockup are .750". I do believe that most of the remaining C8s were pulled from arms rooms around 2010 but continued to be seen overseas in the hands of a few (medics, FOO etc). Last time I personally laid eyes on one was 2010 in Kandahar province.

ETA: I did find some pics of Craftsmans clone on page 12,13 of this very thread. He did/does have a separate build thread with all the dimensions and work he did on his barrel.

My brand new issued C8 in Germany was absolutely .625". That was 1986. I have a mid-80's NOS Diemaco C8 upper in my collection that is .625" as well.

Asking and getting are two different things. It is pretty crazy though.

I can't believe the prices people are paying for CC furniture.
