Let's see your Dangerous Game Rifles.

I put my 416 Rigby through it's paces last weekend and burned through 80 rounds in an afternoon. While authoritative, the recoil isn't all that bad. It really makes the 375 feel like a soft shooter when used back to back.

I'll definitely be keeping this brass to start reloading and cut down on future ammo costs.

Just had a .375 H&H built for me by Leroy at Canyon Creek Customs. Started with a newer Win Model 70 Safari Classic CRF, a nice Turkish Walnut blank from Clay at Prophet River and sent it down to Leroy to his magic. Rifle is ready to be exported and should have it by end of April at the latest. Leroy sent me these pics to give me a preview of my new DG rifle. It is now time to retire my trusted Sako M85 Kodiak in .375 H&H which will be posted on EE shortly.

Leroy and Connie are amazing!

Here are mine:

L-R:

Sauer 90 in 9.3x64 Brenneke (I believe I was told an Ed LaPour rifle)
Santa Barbara Mauser 98 in 416 Ruger (Martini and Hagn)
Ruger RSM originally in 416 Rigby and rebored to 505 Gibb by Steve Holborn

And my newest:

A 500 Jeffery built on a P14 action with a heavy profile 24" barrel, no idea who built this one.

Almost wet a dry eye seeing your .505 again. Glad she’s stayed in the family, it’s one sweetheart of a rifle. Hope you’re well and your collection is on point, gorgeous!

Very nice!
If you don't mind sharing, what did he charge for making the stock?

Just picked this one up for a song. Its a Whitworth Interarms semi custom in 416 rem mag. Barrel says North American #1 by Scott N Nelson. Haven’t been able to find out much info on it, but also haven’t looked too hard yet. It has a really nice trigger. Nicest bottom metal I have seen on a mauser and feeds smooth as silk and a side wing safety. I have not shot it yet as I need to find some brass and dies still. Has anyone heard of this gunsmith?

Not a typical dangerous game rifle but it's the one I take when I go out for a hike in the woods around my place during times when bears are numerous. It's configured a bit differently now with a smaller minimalist stock and a 1-6 Vortex LPVO with an illuminated red dot center reticle.

It's a 6.5 Grendel and has a 12.5" barrel. When the stock is collapsed it is just over the 26" legal requirement and it slings nicely behind my arm. Very light and it's the closest thing to a handgun I can legally carry. I lose about 150 FPS with the same loads to my 20" Grendel but this isn't a gun I would use past 300 yards anyway.

What bullet weights and muzzle velocities do you get with this and how much does the rig as shown weigh?

I typically take an SKS or Auto 5 when Berry Picking or other activities where I'm concerned about Bears, an Autoloader has advantages.

Suppose my DG rifle is a Ruger 1 303, took a Grizzly at 13 yards with it.

The only one that jumps out to me is a double rifle stock is $10k CAD to do the full circle and get it home.

I carried couple of my stocks guiding goats and was asked by clients and a couple guides / pilots / buddies / other like minded degenerates how much to restock their rifle. I said look up Ralf Martini, as he does better work and I’d have to price it around there for the time it takes. Unfortunately it still didn’t dissuade a few clients who view money differently than I do.

Making a nice stock is an absurdly time intensive endeavour, so much so I’d never consider it for work as I couldn’t afford to live on one stock a month. I’ve got two left to make before I ‘retire’ from it, one for my double one for my M70. After those, I could see paying those prices and not feeling bad.

Very true words. An average walnut blank runs more than a good carbon stock these days, and then the hours!! I hope to do it as a side gig some day, but I kinda think that market is slowly fading away.

One things for sure though, it’s a whole different feeling packing a custom walnut.

A nice circassian walnut stock is at least $1,200, add the labour of $2,000= very costly.
Stillwater and other gun stock makers charge the minimum of $2,000 for a stock, excluding the wood.
