Lets see your pre 64 model 70's

pre 64

Wow there is alot of us with pre 64 in 300 Holland and Holland myself included. Mine being a 1963 love the critter to death, took it to Africa this year and could not ask for more however, like anything a little bit older I sure could use a new stock anyone got one they want to flog???R:d:

I don't think there are that many in Canada there were about 45,000 made and likely most are in the USA except for the two I own and a few others here on Gun Nutz.

Pics of pre-64

Here are some pics of mine. It is a 1960 version in 30/06. I bought it 20 years ago as a hunting tool mostly. I retired it to the safe 15 years ago after my brother "helped" me after I shot a deer and carried it and his gun slung over the same shoulder and scratched them both up a bit. I use a couple of stainless/synthetic guns now mostly to keep my blood pressure down in case of scratches.
This gun is very accurate, at the range this year I shot a 3 shot group of approximately 1.25 inches at 200 yards from the bench.

Nice gun NB444. Here's a picture of the Featherweight 270 Win I just picked up, it's a 59. I had been looking for this gun for quite a while. I got it from a tip from a great CGNer and it's in really great shape. I've got a Zeiss to go on it and I'm just waiting for a set of QD Talleys from Prophet River to complete the package.

I have never thought it wise to be the the guy in the graveyard with the nicest rifles.

Use em, shoot em, scratch em, drop em, hunt em or else get rid of em!

Every firearm I own was bought to be used and is at one time or another. Some just sit a little longer than others. But really, it is none of your business or mine what someone else does with their firearms.

Now, enough trolling and back to the pre 64's...

That is a sweet looking 270, I bet it is a shooter also, congratulations on finding it. I still hunt on sunny days sometimes with mine but I use a Mod 70 SS classic 270 when the going gets tough, and sometimes a Rem 700 SS 300 win mag or a Marlin 444 or a Rem 30/06 7400. You get the picture, the pre-64 is a classic and I enoy it alot but I have other guns I can call on when things get nasty. The pre 64 is 50 years old in pretty good shape and I would just as soon keep it that way.

In follow up to my last comment I have to agree with Crazy Davey. What people do with their guns is a personal choice. The pre 64s are great shooting guns and it would be a sin if all of them never seen the hunting fields again and were relegated to the safes. These guns were built by craftsmen as a hunting tool and have stood the test of time.
I treat this gun the way I treat my own 48 year old carcass. I can still do everything I did when I was 20, (except grow hair) but I have nothing left to prove and don't need any new scars.

Thanks Crazydavey and NB444. I think it'll be a shooter and if it is then I have to decide whether to take it or the 300 H&H for thinhorns this August. Hey Davey, did you ever find a handload to work in your 300 H&H?

Let's revive this old thread...:)

Got another Pre'64 in the mail today so I had them out for a photo-op...they do look better in pairs,...triples are nice too....:D

Come on Rembo, fill us in on some details ;)

The two in the top picture are Featherweights..top is a '59 in 30-06 which is pictured ealier in this thread ,lower is the one I just got, a 1953 Fwt in 308....

same two in lower pic with the '53 Supergrade added at the top...rechambered from 257 Roberts to 250 Ackley Magnum, then rechambered to 257 Weatherby...

I have another Fwt stock, so I'll either swap it onto the '53 or at least swap out the buttpad,..although the wood was cut about 1/4" when they installed the pad...
