Lets see your Squirrel Hunting Rigs!

Yep, except for the bone structure you'd think you were eating chicken wings. I like them breaded and fried. A little plum sauce on the side and bon appetit.

Yeah I've heard from a co-worker they taste kind of like a greasier chicken. I'm genuinely curious about the taste now, maybe I'll make a batch of 40 creek bbq sauce for it :d

They are not greasy in the least... squirrel (and rabbit/hare) is very lean meat.

X2. Very lean. Zero wild taste, why I like them better than rabbits. And unlike rabbit, they don't stink while you dress them either. 'Round here we wet cook them in a slow cooker for a few hours until the meat almost falls off the bone. If anyone in the house can resist devouring them at this point, my wife takes the meat off the bone (3 squirrels) and makes squirrel pot pie. My kids ask for it !

yes!

Sadly this years new rig has not panned out yet... I received a used rifle that was listed as new so. Waiting to scope it and sight it. Pics soon when it gets finished.

(tuesday hopefully)

Here are my two squirrel rifles for 2017, a Browning Buck Mark Sporter when backpacking is required and an Anschutz 1416 for all other times;

I got out yesterday for my first squirrel hunt of the season.
I came into 7 or 8 total in a 2 hour hunt.
They were all young thin Black squirrels, I'll hit that spot again near the end of October to see if they've put on any weight..

Moved into a new place that is wooded but surrounded by farmland and it was infested with greys and blacks. No picture but I stopped counting after I hit about 50 with the chiappa little badger over the course of a year or so. Dog is on point now when the gun comes out! Didn't know people ate them, such a waste...

Out for a stroll at the permission today.

that multi color one looks good, you going to mount it?

Nah, it was definitly in good shape tho! The 17hmr blew out the sides of a couple. (closest shot was about 52 yards free hand so was taking boiler room shots)

They all got cleaned up and mixed into the dogs food.

If I ever see another multi colour one though I will try to mount it for sure.
