Look what I found ........... in the local pawn shop!

I'm guessing it's this:

The M829 is an American Armor-Piercing, Fin-Stabilized, Discarding Sabot (APFSDS) tank round designed specifically for the 120-mm M256 main gun on the Abrams M1A1, M1A2 and M1A3 main battle tanks. This sub-caliber anti-tank round is essentially a dart made of a depleted uranium (DU) alloy which gives it good penetration against nearly all known types of tank armor. The penetrator is carried by a sabot during its acceleration in the gun barrel.

Or something close.

25mm Armour Piercing Fin Stabilized Discarding Sabot Tracer missing the plastic ballistic cap. The ballistic caps fall off all the time but it doesn't affect the performance. As I recall the cartridge case is incorrect for the projectile. APFSDS-T and FAPDS-T normally have black cartridge cases and TP, TPDS-T and HEI-T have green cartridge cases, at least for ammo used by the Canadian Forces.

This 25mm ammo is used in the M242 chain gun on the LAV III and Coyotes.

Appears to be missing the nosecap! I believe was developed in the late 90's for the Bradley Fighting Vehicles.
Before anyone says anything ....... yes it's inert, the case is drilled on the side & is empty of powder & has a spent primer. I'm not sure if this was a sample or display piece since it isn't marked "dummy" and doesn't really show much signs of wear on the paint ....... The sabot seems to be properly crimped in so it doesn't come apart, too bad as it would be nice to see the rest of the projectile. Might make an excellent cutaway project!

You beat me to it. Nice to see someone else remember their training. I'm assuming the FAPDS-T is the APDS-T. I could be wrong but I think the they are all green now and the black cases (AP) were earlier lots.

Its definitely not this. The M829 has an overall length just shy of 1000 mm (1 m) whereas the 25 mm rounds at about 223 mm and the 50 cal is 138.4 mm.

Interesting to note that the ring formed in the case just below the shoulder is for keeping the links in the proper location.
Upon firing, the indented ring gets fire-formed tight against the chamber wall.
It leaves a very tiny ripple, but otherwise is ironed out completely on the fired cases.

Good score, how much?

Before I divulge what I paid for it (and I will!) ....... what do you guys think would be a fair price to pay for such a novelty?

Also ....... is anyone able to glean any info from the head stamp? I'm guessing 1995 production?

You are only a wee bit off on your estimation ...... 120mm ... 25mm, who can guess?

I would be happy to get it for $50 now, in Canada.

In 1989 (on our honeymoon!), I went to a surplus place in CA and got 4 similar drill rounds, but with a solid projectile, for US$5 each.
Traded away 3 of them, still have the fourth one.
