Looking for a more expensive type of gun

You could get a Blaser - one gun, 20 different cartridges - and never need to buy another gun.

But that doesn't mean that you shouldn't buy another gun.

I think the base price for a Blaser with one barrel is around $2000 - I forget how much extra barrels are.

Blaser R93 Professional (synthetic stock) with one barrel $ 2,700, scope mount + ring is another $ 600... After both tax it will cost you about $ 3,500. Each extra berrel is $ 850 + tax. It is not exactly cheap, but you will love it !!

Some of the best hunters I know hunt with very inexpensive firearms and optics.

A source of contant frustration in my life is that a bubba Lee Enfield I own with a $60 Bushnell shotgun scope on it out shoots my entire collection with cheap Federal factory ammo.

most meat hunters dont have 6000 dollar rifles, and 3000 dollar scopes.

A used rifle with dents and scratches which shoots fine, will take as many critters as $1000+ priced rifles.

personally I would throw a wood stock on your savage and grab a better scope- when I say better I do not mean a 1000 dollar scope either;) -.

I know but what if that meat hunter had that extra $6000 to spend on the rifle and scope. I am not saying cheap guns are crap. I just want 1 really nice rifle, is that so wrong?

Cereal ... I like the logic you're putting into this.

For the money, it's hard to beat a Mauser 03, Blaser or Sauer 202 ... all great rifles, and very well made. Sako's & Kimbers just aren't in the same class.
If you want to buy Noprth American, you might want to look at Dakotas, and if accuracy (rather than nice wood) rocks your boat, a Jarrett.

By all means, choose a favourite caliber and get what YOU want.
It's your dough ... and it certainly sounds like you worked for it and invested wisely.

BMW's & Porches do nothing for me ...
but I do like nice guns with nice wood !

I was very interested in the Mauser 03 until I seen the review of six different rifles compared. The Mauser 03 averaged over a 2" grouping, the second worst of the group of six. The Stevens 200 was more accurate at 300 bucks. Quite disappointing for a 3000 dollar rifle, I would have expected better accuracy.

Make sure you do you research before you spend the big dollars.

hey now dont dis crap;)

i bought alot of cheap guns since december. rem 700 sps 300 wsm, tikka t3 7/08,rossi .50 cal, mossberg500 12gauge,ruger 10/22, savage .22,sks, wingmaster 12 gauge, savage model 10 .223. and i also bought cheaper scopes and bought a lee anniversary kit.

but think about it instead of having one gun i have a bunch that are all different and that i can play with differently! different ammo to reload and different calibers too shoot.

and that aint bad for someone that only makes 18,000 a year! (but i also live at home and that helps me save money)

plus it gives me more cash to buy calls decoys blinds treestands, clothing, knives, bullets, cigarettes, fishing crap, and what ever my little heart desires.;)

if it were me id buy 5 cheap guns instead of one precious safe queen.

thats just me! good luck bud!

This seems to be a recurring comment. Why does an expensive/pretty rifle have to be a safe queen? What if you aquired a nice Oberndorf Mauser in .404 Jeffery, and it came with dings and scratches; wouldn't that give the rifle some character? In other words, buy a nice rifle and give it character. There is no point in hiding any rifle in a safe....unless it's an hierloom.

Also, I am curious as to how many people knocking expensive/fancy rifles have actually owned and hunted with one? Is there anyone here who has owned a Sauer and sold it in disgust? And then purchased a Remchester?

It's kind of like the people who harp on BMW and Porsche, but have never owned one.

im not dissing them at all my friend. im just saying for someone who is still new at hunting it is not a wise choice especially when u dont have all the gear that ull need to go hunting.

when i first got into hunting i couldnt and still cant afford to go out and buy a quality firearm and then buy butchering equipment, jacket, hat, bibs, deer drag, and other essentials. im just saying that he is just started hunting and if it were me i would get all the essentials and get a deer or two under my belt before spending the cash.

what if he doesnt like it as much as he thought? alot of people dont ( i dont see how they couldnt either;) ) now i dont no much about his shooting/hunting experience but its like buying a ferrari before getting your drivers license.

i dont want to offend anyone im just telling the guy my opinion.

Wow you have quite the selection of guns now. I know it might be better to buy a few more guns that are a little cheaper but I don't really need alot of guns. I remember shooting your Tikka at the range and compared to my gun well it was awesome. It was so much smooter then my gun and I accually wanted to buy a Tikka but couldn't see myself spending the extra $400 on that gun. Now after I shot your gun, I thought how nice it would be if the netxt gun I owned was accually better then that and I then decided to buy 1 nice gun and keep my Savage for a backup gun.

I also think it is a waste of money to buy lets say a Elite 3200 and not be happy with it after looking through a Leupold or Zueiss at the gun shop. I bought a $150 range finder last year, used it twice and now the numbers are all faded. I would rather spend $500 on the range finder and have it work for the next 20 years.

I am also not big into having lots of calibers. a 30-06 will take all the game Ontario has to offer, I have a 12 Gauge 870 which I also plan to upgrade and I have a Savage 22 which is falling apart. The next caliber I will probably need is something for varmints like a 22-250 or 223 or something like that.

I am just sick of wasting my money on stuff I know I won't be happy with. I was gonna buy a $100 Walmart hunting jacket but then I looked at them and then saw the $300 jackets and I saw a big differance so I am waiting a bit and buying a proper jacket.

I didn't know so many people were agaisn't nice guns around here.

Well I want to thank you all again for your comments. So I will probably be buying a Sako although Kimber seems to be alot better imo and from tons of reviews. I am into a Synthetic stock and I am sure it won't be a safe queen and I will use it and won't be scared to use it.

So thanks again all, I am just gonna keep my eye out for a good price.

I will put it in plain english and maybe you will see the reasoning behind it. why pound the crap out of something like that on a hunting trip???? seems like a waste of money to me. Could be spent on a lot of better things. To each their own.:)

It sounds like you want a precision/benchrest rifle to me. Now, that I could justifying spending $3000+ on.:D

If I had the money for just one all around hunting rifle...
Simply swap barrels with the caliber you feel the need to take with you.

Even better with this make...

I own a Sauer and between the extra barrel and optics have over 6k into it an go hunting with it every year and it never lets me down. I also have a Styer scout and is close to 5k with optics and use it for my backup rifle. I started hunting when I was 5 years old and have gone from the cheaper guns to the expensive due to experience and preference. I don't think I could go from using these rifles back to something inferior, and would not do it willingly I might add.
