Our only hope is organizations like NFA and CSSA with gun owners like us placing pressure on everyone to try to protect what rights we have left.
No. You do not place hopes on others to do s**t for you.

Pick up a pen and take the fight to your own hands.

+ 100000000000000 to that.

If you ever want the hope of LEGALLY owning a semi auto AK or other currently prohibited firearm, you as an individual have got to do your part and make the government see the futility of firearms laws that only restrict the legal ownership of firearms.

This actually enhances the work of the firearms orgs in Ottawa.

When the Liberals came to power, they introduced Bill C68 (1995). The majority of Military semi auto's on the Restricted list were converted to prohibited. The idea here was ALL guns were bad and needed to be registered, but some were badder than others and needed to be "banned".
And this is one of the ways they tried to determine what guns were more evil than others.

Thanks for posting those scans up, an interesting read!

Well I think they were very fair judging firearms by things such as pistol grips and carrying handles, and bayonet lugs...what the hell does the stock have to with anything??? You can always go out and buy a folding one if the firearm is popular enough (and compatable with one).

Either way, that shows how stupid this country really is.

Cheers,
Alex

"firearms containing high firepower"... WTF? I've looked at the parts diagrams of all banned firearms in Canada and never saw a component listed as "high firepower"... Must be an alloy or something...

must be one of those battery powered high tech gizmos i am gonna have to strip down all my firearms to see if they contain a high firepower component

I think the point system should be kept up there to show how we were treated and how arbitrary were the evaluation methods based on looks and the fear they inspired in certain people at that time

"The intention was to develop a simple but flexible classification system in order to seperate unnacceptably dangerous firearms from those LESS SO, and guide persons and organizations concerned with the purchase and sale of firearms about the types of firearms that could be problematic".

And with this STUPID, STUPID statement you get a crystal clear example of the rank idiocy in which the Progressive Conservative gun law was conceived.

Some firearms are less dangerous than others ? The authors of this obviously think it is less serious to be blown in half by a "traditional" and familiar looking 12 gauge double barrell shotgun.

It was of course, part and parcel of the "assault weapons" hysteria of the day, which the Coalition for Gun Control is trying to revive. The media did a very good job of whipping it up, and that fit very well into the plans of the PC government.

The hypocracy and amateurishness in which firearms are treated by politicians, bureaucrats and media has earned them the rejection and failure of firearms laws we have today. A hunting rifle is just a hunting rifle, until more gun control is on the agenda and then it's a "high powered sniper rifle", or it's a "high powered handgun with cop killer bullets", or an "easily concealable Saturday Night Special". or "my father was a hunter-so I'm an expert-and he didn't use one of those-so that's an assault weapon".

Our firearms laws were written by idiots. It's time to change them.

And we will. Nothing will stand in the way of that.

From the text, we can see that there are two broad categories of firearms:

-Unnaceptably dangerous firearms
-Less unnaceptably dangerous firearms

This classification system is simple yet flexible enough to allow the bannishment of all dangerous firearms.

how many points does a gun need to be non restricted, restricted and prohib, according to my calculations the SVD Dragunov scores 95

I counted 75...

Let see:
Semi Auto - 25
Center Fire - 15
Bayonet Lug - 5
Flash suppressor - 5
10 round magazine capacity - 25

Total : 75

If they had any sort of brain, ATLEAST everything but the first two should not be considered what so ever. Especially the last one since there is a 5 round limit on semi auto center fire rifles anyway...

Cheers,
Alex

i was countingf the fact that they can claim (and probably did) that the stock design could be considered as having a full pistol grip

Points system = Stupidity.

Firearms are inanimate objects -- its not like they have agressive personalities dependant upon their features.

Thats like sorting people by tatoo's, piercing or hair styles...
Well its worse since people can determine their looks the gun cannot.
