I'm in the market right now for a rifle, but I haven't been able to find one that meets all my requirements.

I'd really like this rifle to be:

*Sub-moa
*Short action, .308
*Stainless / synthetic
*Backup Irons
*Detachable magazine
*1:11 or 1:12 twist
*Smooth bolt preferred

I'm not really interested in explaining why, or exploring other calibers. The Savage 16fcss and Sako Finnlight are the closest I've found, but neither have backup irons. The Savage Axis XP SS is another option, but the problem I'm having is finding where I'd install irons. I looked through all of Remington's catalogue and couldn't find anything that meets the criteria.

I understand that Savage has a custom shop, so that may be a possibility just to have irons slapped on a weather warrior. I noticed also that Ellwood Epps offers iron sight installation and sells Savage and Sako rifles, although I know if I ask which one to buy they'll just push the most expensive rifle on me.

If anyone has any info, help would be appreciated. Again, I'm not looking for the same 20 people that post on every thread to start talking about the 60's.

Thanks,
RS

Those Zastavas look awesome, but do they come in DM? Stainless M98's in .308 is cool stuff, I wonder how the accuracy would be.

Browning X-Bolt Stainless Stalker or Stainless Stalker Carbon Fiber...no open sights just like the Sako and Savage. Epps even has a Carbon Fiber in .308.

Welcome to the hurdle/why I don't buy new rifles. Iron sights. I will never scope something I can't shoot well with irons first. Limits the options a lot.

I have an older Tikka M695 .300 win mag that has all the features (without the short action). I don't know if they still offer the be line with open sites.

I know where you can get a .308 Weatherby Vanguard, 20" barrel, iron sights, shoots like a damn.

Blued barrel vs synthetic and has magazine w/ floorplate vs clip. It costs $500....new too.

I bought one and there is one left. Mine is my truck/throw in the back of the car for camping gun!

By requiring irons, you seriously limit your choices unless you are willing to pay to have them added.
To each his own, but my personal opinion is that the iron sight requirement is redundant these days.
I have hunted scopes pretty well exclusively since 1960, and have yet to lose a head of game due to a scope issue.

I'm rethinking the need for irons also. My eyes are not what they used to be and there is no natural law that keeps irons zeroed. I think most hunting could be done with 1-4X or 2-6X scopes too. I know that would work for me.

what about the AIA enfield clones through marstar?
maybe not sub MOA? but might work for ya.

edit: sorry its not stainless/synthetic, but has most of what else your looking for, including a 10 round magazine.

Ahhh, the perfect rifle- IT DON'T EXIST!!!:bump:
However, if you are looking for short action, sub MOA, magazine, IMO the savage is hard to beat in any of the categories, including price.

You might need one of these,...covers all the bases except the stainless part.....has real nice iron sights.

The rifle your looking for is in my safe it is a Scout Steyr 308 it got everything you asked for but you need to fork out 2800.00... JP.

Adding sights to a rifle will cost about $200. Hardly a deal breaker if the rifle is "perfect' in all other aspects. New England Custom Gun makes excellent after-market sights for many models of rifle.
