Low Budget 10/22 "Pocket Rifle" SBR Project

And since I've already stuck my nose into this, I figured that maybe I can try and help the OP a little. If you're looking for a donor, on a budget, the 10/22 can be a bit pricey, even used. There are numerous sponsors on here that carry the Rock Island Armory/ Armscor M22. It is a clone of the 10/22. I have found all parts to be interchangeable. And you can usually buy it new for around $200-at least that's what I paid for mine. Now it's not silver coloured, but even the Rugers are just that-silver coloured. All the 10/22's are aluminum so whether the action is black or silver or even fuscia it's just a coating. If you want a different color buy a can of arma-coat or dura-coat

I had read that the RIA was not compatible with Ruger barrels. Since I intend to change barrels this is a deal breaker for me.

I don't know for sure about barrels, but now that you've said that- I have to find out. I know pretty much everything else is: bolt, extractor, firing pin, trigger group cause I've tried them all. Will check out the barrel when I'm home

Wow facts straight. If you dont know something, dont make stuff up!
No the RIA barrel is not swappable with 10/22 barrels. Horrible advise!!!!!
My guess is almost NO people get their guns reclassified. They just say they did!
My understanding of the CC is you cant make a pistol into a rifle. I could be wrong. But from what Hical says, it confirms what I know.

Incorrect.

A gun *originally* classed as a *pistol* (ie: Charger) cannot be made non-restricted, and a rifle *named* as restricted under Order-in-Council (ie: AR 15's) cannot be made non-restricted....but that's it. The 10/22 in question will not be an issue...it will simply be registered as a restricted rifle due to overall length under 26 1/2" (Unless you re-registered it as a *pistol*....which would not only be completely unnecessary, but stupid as well)

.

You are right, for clarification, we used the FRT for a pistol for the conversion at the customers request, hence pistol & no going back....

You used an incorrect FRT, and registered a non-charger receiver as a charger??

You do realize that you are breaking the law....right?

So your customer has an improperly registered restricted weapon that can never be reverted back to non-restricted...apparently done at his request?? Why the hell would anyone ASK for that? Better question: Why the hell would you agree to it?

Jesus man, your posts in this thread are scaring the hell out of me! You claim to be professionals....you should KNOW this stuff!!

Methinks as soon as the RCMP lads see this thread/your posts, you won't have to worry about doing verifications and re-registrations much longer....

just stick to a fixed stock 26-27" SBR and go unrestricted. What's the point of a folding stock when you're just going to unfold it when you use it anyway? Plan on keeping it folded while you run spec ops mission in your hummer or run security duty for VIPs in the middle east?

Changing the subject....I sent an e-mail to Dlask asking if an aftermarket shorter barrel for a TakeDown model was something they would consider building. The short answer is "no". Then I asked about a custom 5.5" stainless steel bull barrel, for a regular (non-TD) receiver - I have not heard back from them on this.

After several requests for quotes on a custom barrel having been completely ignored by Dlask, I have ordered a 6" custom McGowen stainless steel barrel from Jerry at Mystic Precision.
I have located a Canadian dealer (Hical) who stocks the BC stainless folder and if a used one does not turn up, by the time the barrel arrives, I will go that route. Now I just need to find a good deal on a lightly used stainless/silver 10/22....
