lubing your new AR

It's great, summer, or winter. I just rub an even coat on the entire BCG, and the Firing Pin/Cam Pin. After 400-500 rounds the carbon just wipes off. 10w, 5w, doesn't seem to matter.

Except for the disgusting oil then burnt oil smell :) I get enough of the smell of oil at work don't need to smell it when i am trying to enjoy my free time shooting. I use slip 2000 grease and oil and not only does it work awesome there is no smell !

I haven't noticed any burned oil smell. Engine oil seems to work well. I notice some guys use grease. Ive never tried grease on the AR15 but I have on a pistol and that stops it from functioning in short order. In my experience oil is best.

I wouldn't use regular motor type grease not even for my M14 but the slip 2000 stuff seems to work great and because its grease it stays where it should and provides excellent lubrication without the chunky drag feeling other grease does. I use the grease on high wear points and places that the manual says needs lots of oil and use the oil for the other parts. seems to be working good for me so far on all my guns.

No burnt smell as it doesn't get hot enough, if you find the sent of engine oil unpleasant I can understand, but I hardly notice it, usually only when I'm cleaning it.

I grease my Pistol with a light Moly grease, but engine oil is superior imo because it gives the added benefit of easy clean ups. It also works in the cold, any grease I'd be willing to shell for isn't going to be able to deal with -20 or colder, 5w20 is flawless at -25C, I haven't been out when it's colder...I won't drive my car below -30 unless it's an emergency because it's a POS.

If you don't like the smell of burning 4 stroke oil, you could use some high end 2 stroke oil. Klotz smells like strawberries when burned and the Polaris VES Gold smells like Sweet Tart candies ;)

Does CLP disappear shortly after applied. I lubed my AR 15 with it at noon today generously and by 8 pm it’s gone. Does it evaporate or something no residue anywhere, it’s like it evaporated

New metal ? Probably absorbed into the metal it shouldn't have evaporated what kind of clp ?

When my build was brand new, I ran oil internally, and white lithium die makers grease externally, and Hoppes oil on everything else. After a few hundred rounds, I switched to just oil. Never misses a beat.

Lithium grease stays put, it is not easily displaced, which is why I use it to break in everything that that slides; BCGs and Pistol slides. It is not real dirty, and does not stink.

I was just curious as to the comment re Mobil 1, were you being serious? Can we really use motor oil as lube?

Ya man if you want oil is lubrication people use engine oil all the time, Personally I don't because of the smell of oil and burning oil when you start shooting but ya engine oil, transmission oil it all will work

Engine oil works great for a piston in a tight bore with high heat. Why not a BCG in a bore with heat? Engine oil works in my AR. I use synthetic 5w30 cause that's what I had but I really don't think the rifle is picky. Any engine oil would be fine.
