I just wanted to post this to prove to anyone that believes the M14 is only a military rifle... they are WRONG. :canadaFlag:

Here is my Poly Tech 2009 M305 along with a nice White Tail Doe that was harvested at about 70 - 80 yards on a trail in heavy brush/trees. I live in the city, but my parents live in the counrtyside, so they were acting as my guides. :D It was the start of an evening hunt and the deer was laying down in the brush on the edge of the trees: as I stopped to shoot the deer it jumped up! Luckily, she stopped to watch my "guides" as they had kept moving on!

I did not have the time before the season to reload some hunting rounds for the M305 so I was using some Win 180gr Silver Tips (I know, a bit big, but shot groups 2" or less at 100yards): the shot was over a second later. We left the doe to run off for 10 minutes and found the doe dead 175 yards away deep into the trees: the shot took out a lung and the liver.

This doe dedicated to: My "Guides" (thanks for the help every year) and member m39a2 (for putting up with all my dumb questions).

For those intersted in knowing what I have done to this Poly, go here: My Poly M305 named "Betty".

I took a little 3x3 buck a few days ago with the m14 shorty. Last year I got a really nice 5x5 with it. I love my m14, but have a feeling I will be hunting with the RFB if I get one.

Holy Fark.......did you Bayonet that Doe?

To the OP, nice job, next time shot it in the shoulder, won't run so far into the woods!

i launched a grenade at it after it fell, just in case

..

thats the exit wound(s) from a couple of Hornady SST's with 43gr of H4895 at about 75 yds.. it was in mid flight when i took the first shot.. second shot almost in the same spot.. as close to a double tap as humanly possible with a .308

Nah... he did not need to after all those excellent skills learned from/with us at Service CQB, Langemark Range, Base Borden! :D

Way to go with the tweaked M14 there Valmet762 !! :ar15:

M305's are for Hunters...

Actually, what you see in the photo is the exit wound as the entrance is just in front of the right shoulder: the shot was at a 40 to 50 degree angle into the deer's front right side, with a slight upward angle, as the round went in the deer's right lung and out the liver.

I found the M14/M305 actually pretty awesome to pull up to the shoulder in a hurry, get on target quickly and get the harvest smoothly. :D :D :D

Nice work! Those two sets of pics basically poo on everything that the antis have been saying.

That is the EXACT thing I wanted to show! I wanted anyone who thinks a red/black/milsurp/etc. rifle cannot be used for sport and food shooting to see at least some proof they are wrong! :HR:

I was not very lucky this year but here is mei-belle just before the long hike for buck with my pack this November.

Jeebuz H Keerist!!!

What the hell did you shoot that doe with, a explosive head????

My Gawd, I've never seen a .308 do that to a deer.

I got skunked this year with my M305, dammit!!!

Actually, my hunting partner has had some divorce issues with his kids, so it really limited the times we could go hunting. Grrrrrrrr...............next year.
