M14 Match *Saturday June 29, 2013*

I'm curious as to the rough timelines that are being considered for such a match.

The reason I ask is that I've got an M305 sighted in and shooting decently enough, but also a couple others and a few friends with PALs who might be interested in coming out as a group if we could sight in the rifles beforehand. That might be a quick thing or it may take some time, depending on whether the Norc sights prove to be usable or require that I install mounts for optics.

The nice thing about this match setup is that the number of shots required and course of fire appear amenable to bringing out such a group.

Timeline for this match won't be until next spring/summer. I am hoping to book this match rather May or June. Hope that is the info your looking for.

Thanks for the heads up! I'll use that as an incentive to try to prep the guns and any potential shooters for the event.

Curious, what's you plan for the CofF? Movers, snaps and deliberates would be nice at different targets at different ranges. Prone, standing, kneeling.

Course of fire with be deliberate. As for now, I got everything being shot at 300m. I might change it up in the new year once we have a date book in and make it different distances.

Bipods? Mine has an M14 bipod.

Bi-pods will be allowed..............maybe.............I was thinking of having two classes for the M14 section. Class 1 will be shooting jackets and sling or just sling. Class 2 will be optic or bi-pod. That will be the class choice for now. I will have out a final description for this match once a date has been booked and confirm.

You can get around those without bipods to compete with those who do by allowing sandbags for rests.

With that kind of rifle, bipods and sandbags should not be allowed unless there is a medical/physical reason for it. It discourages people from learning rifle skills. Class I looks like American SR matches, so why not make Class II a Canadian style match: no shooting jackets or rests. As Bolivar says: shoot it like MEN!

You'll undertstand why when you get older and not so steady any longer.

I'm aiming to be more like the handful of gentlemen at NSCC that have their senior cards and shoot everything but the rundowns. They do rather well in the positions, actually. As I said, I think the practice should be generally discouraged unless there are physical/medical limitations that prevent someone from not using a rest. Too many physically capable young guys out there that can't shoot without a rest of some sort because they only ever shoot off of one.

If there is interest in the use of rests, and option would be for the use of expedient rests only - no bipods.
Number pegs, knapsacks, etc. Don't know if a 5/20 M-14 magazine is long enough to use as monopod or not.

How about "as issued" and "non issued", without turning this into am equipment race. After all this is a shooting contest.
This is a US style match and I believe Syxx15 wants to keep this as close the the original match rules as possible without turning shooters away, hence allowing optics.
Now people want bipods, front rests, sand bags etc. There are plenty of F Class matches, this is supposed to be a fun match using M14/M1A's so lets keep it simple.

"As issued" would be rack grade rifles that would allow Hungry's upgrades, orginal barrel etc. "Non issued" would be rebarreled, optics, bipod etc.

Oh crap... now I'll have to buy an M14!
If I get one, I'm in.

I haven't been to Cedar Springs since 1976.
Please keep us posted.

It can be done, but you have to get way down the hill, rest the mag on the ground, and create divits at the barrel because you are so low. Its uncomfortable, but can be done.

You guys dont have to worry about us old timers beating your score because we use bipods, not from me anyway.
