M14s 2500rd Review and a DIY Mod-Stock walk through

I also like the mod 45ACPKING did, by trimming a bit of the material away, from the front of the NEA adaptor; gives more room to get the trigger group in/out.

I'm going to do my stock too, but don't have a buffer tube yet.

I put a sheet of cardboard down, traced the top edge of the stock, then extended that line back a foot from the end of the receiver heel location
so now I have a straight line for reference, with the rear of the receiver marked on the line for reference as well
then I used an angle finder on the adaptor and transferred that angle to my cardboard, just behind the receiver, leaving a bit of the stock there
placed the adaptor with buffer tube assembly on the cardboard and lined it up on the angle line and by carefully measuring , achieved parallelism between the original top of stock line and the buffer tube assembly.
this made it easy to see everything and how it would go together once I cut on that line.
assuring everything would jive..... I masking taped the stock and transferred the line using the marks on the cardboard
I dunno if that makes any sense , but I was able to make my cuts with almost no messing about or truing up after cutting. went together very easily.
as in it appears to be harder than it is hehehhe
anyone handy and crafty should be able to pull this mod off with relative ease.

What sort of riser did you use inconjunction with the CASM? Feedback?

I cut that part off behind the trigger guard prior to assembly , with an angle grinder and thin zip disc.
saw would work too.
once trimmed , there is an open pocket there and I filled that in with marine tex.
should be able to see if you zoom in on it.

when I was done with my mods I dropped it off at cerakote bc for the magpul OD finish, tho he told me he would prefer not to have to cerakote the Chinese plastic stocks in the future LOL

there is a product from birchwood casey called aluminum black , I've tried it and works for scratches and small spots....... I wasn't overwhelmed with the results but it's available where bluing stuff is sold.

Did he say that Cerakote doesn't adhere to the material in Norc stocks very well? That wouldn't be surprising I suppose

seems to be sticking extremely well actually. I'm SUPER happy with it.
I was just told that it was a real pain in the ass to prep.
most injected plastics/carbon composites like these stocks, archangels ect are molded with a oily base. this is why when you sand or shape an area of these stocks or to refresh a faded factory finish, vegetable or mineral oil is used on the stock (not the painted ones)
painting them with any finish is a challenge. I belive the cerakote works as it is baked in after it is applied.

For those worried about the adapter from SFRC don't sweat it, I just bought one and received it today and its exactly like the one used by the op the picture must be a generic pic maybe from a Mossberg and it stands to reason if you think about it, the trigger assembly hasn't changed on the 870 nor where the but stock bolts on so how could it extend so far out haha well it doesn't!!! I have proof in my hand as I write this

Cheers

Would this work too?

DS Tactical is a little more local to me and I'm sure they have it in stock...

The only thing that might be an issue is that it doesn't have the dimples to ensure it doesn't twist..

Ya I've been looking at this exact adapter myself but it does not have any lugs to prevent twisting like you point out so it might require drilling holes to attach pins or screws into the adapter? Also that slotted area on the face leads me to believe you'd also have buy a Mesa sling attachment plate to fill that slot & provide a solid mounting surface to the stock. Otherwise it looks like a great unit

Looking at it I cant see why you couldn't make it work. I think there is an insert sold to fill that gap, maybe a sling attachment lug or something, I may be wrong but I thought I seen an option like that and yes I think some kind of anti rotation system needs to be in place I am not sure the little nubs on the NEA one are gonna last but I guess if its cinched down tight enuf it will be fine. I guess I will find out here right quick, good luck with your build everyone!!

I had my own way of doing this mod using a stormwerks ar180b adaptor but it involved making the grip mount detail out of flat bar and drilling and tapping and bolting and was a lot more work than the OP's mod with the 870 adaptor.

as a twist, and because I need another mod stock with a bit higher buttstock position, I've gone full retard and chopped up the back end of a brand new but decomissioned AR lower, given to me for this exact purpose by a good friend in the industry ;) .
I'll post some pics of that contraption in a bit.

Open the window Thomas the fumes are getting to you ....never go full retard ..lol . Cant wait to see the pics !

Well I seen this mod and thought wow I can do that and it looked great so I jumped on the bandwagon and ordered my adaptor as stated up above a few posts and spent the better part of I would say 2 full hours chopping and gluing and filing and sanding than painting and assembling and here we are all done and I must say thank you for the idea it is awesome

I've never handled one but I may just give it a try. They do look well made and solid.
I'd like to have a folder, if just for storage, but if the adaptor doesn't work out
I can always sell it to an AR15 guy. :)

Has anyone actually done a build with the Hera Arms side folder and where can a guy buy one?
