M14s 2500rd Review and a DIY Mod-Stock walk through

looks like that can be added to any adapter with the buffer tube threads but would probably make it quite long once installed behind the nea adapter?

Ya it's going to add some length but shouldn't be too big a deal if you are running an adjustable butt stock. Maybe just set the butt stock one or two positions less than you normally would for your preferred LOP. I think it would be a great idea for making the rifle more compact for travelling or for a guy who wants to throw a shortie into a back pack etc in the bush. Might be an alternative for guys that carry shorty shot guns. Gives you the option to fire it in folded position in emergencies (bears etc) then you also have the advantage of un-folding it for regular rifle type use.

Well I seen this mod and thought wow I can do that and it looked great so I jumped on the bandwagon and ordered my adaptor as stated up above a few posts and spent the better part of I would say 2 full hours chopping and gluing and filing and sanding than painting and assembling and here we are all done and I must say thank you for the idea it is awesome

Great job!! looks awesome!

Thx I hope it shoots as good as it looks, its a pretty nice Chinese specimen I have had a few and this one is indexed nice the gas tube is nice and straight as well the bushing is tight, the lugs are both in contact, all in all it looks like it may be a nice shooter, here's hoping haha

Yes veeeeery nice Stevey; still have some drool running down my shirt after seeing that! I'm starting to get jealous, gotta wait a bit longer for my adapter then it's get at 'er time for my mod too

Hahaha I was going to buy one already made and I seen this thread and said that looks like a fun project, and my god honestly 2 hours from very start to reassembly its crazy easy and was fun I love to tinker so to be able to tinker and have fun than to get the stock as a reward for playing WOW right!!!

and the perfect width to slide into the rear recess of the Chinese plastic stock ;)
little more work to do but almost done

here's how it went together

I cut the rear of the ar lower horizontally and removed a section to I could bring the buffer tube section forward and lower towards the grip section.
then I trimmed a buffer tube lock ring to fit.

then I used quick setting steel epoxy putty to join the two sections together in a jig to hold it true.
once set, I drilled 3 holes into the the surface the top of the grip butts against. tapped 8x32 and sunk 3/4" machine screws up into the buffer tube section
that provided a very solid bond to the two halves.

next I drilled straight down at the front the adaptor and tapped 1/4x28

made a small piece out of aluminum 1/8" angle. bottom hole fits the 1/4x 28 machine screw (ar grip screw)
top hole in the angle is 1/4x20 thread for the button head machine screw, lock washer and nut.
then another angle section to fit into the rear of the norincos action inlet. it is made to fit the stock's existing recess.

assembling the adaptor and plate (this further and ultimately bonds the two halves together, the epoxy in there is now just filler.

slide adaptor into stock and attach to inlet plate with 1/4x20 button head, lockwasher and internal nut (epoxy and permanent Loctite is a must)

the next step will be epoxy reinforcement and shaping to finished stock.

I see what you are shooting for.

You are trying to line up the barrel and the buffer tube to reduce barrel rise during shooting. Am I correct?

(From the cheap seats) Not so much aligning the bore and stock, as raising the comb under the eyeball when shooting with a scope.

when it's done it should provide a middle ground buffer tube position that affords use of irons "or" optic, and due to the stock walls supporting the "adaptor" , will be a bombproof modification. And yes, bringing the buffer tube center closer to the bore center will also add some stability at the muzzle end during rapid fire. ;)

Do you think that a Butler Creek folder would work for this.

It should. There is a model of the Butler Creek folder that fits either a 870 or Mossy 500 receiver. With the adapter used by the OP it is essentially bolted to an 870 spec receiver.

Edit: I just opened my new Butler Creek folder and it looks like it would take some creative fabricating to get it to work but it is possible. In my opinion it would need to have the hole where the buffer tube would normally go to be filled with a flat plate to mount the folder hardware to. Might be easier to just use the folding adapter for the normal AR style butt stock instead.

Also with it folding to the right side of the receiver, the stock may interfere with the op rod.

I've made from scratch or modded over 200 stocks into "CQB" versions using a similar idea with various store bought and home made adaptors over the years.
the ones pictured in that other thread were made using an inhouse made adaptor, very similar to the method I've shown here, except the two parts of the adaptor were tig welded together instead of drilling/tapping and using machine screws. Those stocks were also made from scratch in my own molds using a hand laminate of carbon fiber and fiberglass.
