M14s 2500rd Review and a DIY Mod-Stock walk through

I have never seen one in person . Do they lock up nice and solid ?

I took off the ARMS 18 mount and added an Ultimak M8 front handguard , Elander 10 round mags, GS designs mag extensions, Magpul AFG .

I've never handled one but I may just give it a try. They do look well made and solid.
I'd like to have a folder, if just for storage, but if the adaptor doesn't work out
I can always sell it to an AR15 guy. :)

I just finished a modstock with the NEA shotgun adaptor. Thx to the DIY info here. I usually use the stormwerks adaptor and fabricate the grip mount. The NEA one, while it buts everything much lower, near same as a usgi stock, it works out pretty good for shooting my irons ;)

I want to get a CTR buttstock and a 3/4 in cheek riser for mine as like 45ACPKING mentioned for iron sights its ok but for any kind of optics I need a cheek riser . I have tried an Arms 18 mount and the Ultimak on mine and the Ultimak ( and now M14. CA ,s version as well) is the lowest mount out there I believe .
The stock on mine has held up very well with no sign of it getting loose . I am very glad I made the modification and it was uber easy to do .
Thanks again xURSOx for posting this :)

I'd be hesitant to do this with a usgi fiberglass stock as they are a two piece unit glued together down the middle.
Vltor's modstock uses usgi stocks but their adaptor encases the outside edge of the stock where they cut it. This is done so the stock can't flex and split down the center at the rear.
The plastic stock however, is perfect for these kind of mods

When I was modding lots of GI stocks into CQB stocks , I ran 2 1/4x20 cross bolts thru the stock wall and adaptor, overmolded to hide it all. These have proven to be bombproof and I've never had any returned or complained about on here ;)
I tried the folding stock idea using my usual modstock approach and didn't feel that the (usgi stock) modification was strong enough to take someone's money for.

I tried a few different optics and mounts on mine since doing the mod.
With just the stock AR buttstock the iron sights line up well but I wanted to mount a red dot.
The ARMS 18 mount positions the optic a little higher than the Ultimak M8 .
The Eotechs mount a little higher than the TRS and spacer combination I used .
I first tried an Arms 18 mount with Eotech , then an Arms 18 with a Bushnell TRS-25 and and finally the Ultimak M8 front rail with an Eotech and then the TRS -25
Using a stock AR buttstock with no cheek riser and the Ultimak M8 with no spacer on the TRS-25 I can cowitness with the iron sights .
When looking through the peep sights and the TRS at the same time it has a small field of vision but I have shot it out to 600 yards like that .
Using a small spacer on the TRS mounts it above the iron sights so the field of vision is a lot better and the 3/4 in cheek riser on the Magpul buttstock I mounted gives it a good cheekweld .
If I was using the Eotech on the Ultimak or ARMS 18 a higher cheek riser on the butt stock would be required than the 3/4 inch one on it now .

This is my favorite setup for this rifle now.

nice work guys! does anyone know if it would be possible to leave a little plastic on the sides of the stock at the cut to blend into the stock adapter? or has anyone considered using an 80% ar15 lower?

xURSOx, this is an awesome mod you've created.

It looks like it might be real tight getting the trigger group in & out, eh?

The rod that the rear butt piece mounts on, does that come with the Magpul butt stock?

If you mean the buffer tube, usually they dont come with the stock as its originally designed for the AR15 and they come with it. You CAN get a milspec or commercial buffer tube separately, depending which type is your stock..

I guess the whole chicken and the egg thing. You get the right size/type for the one you get first...

ya this should certainly be a sticky....... the requests have been numerous but seem to be falling on deaf ears LOL

yoohoo mr moderators ? sticky please hehehehe :)

I was doing some digging thru my stuff today and found a few of my full custom stocks I had boxed up and put away.
I might end up selling my cerakoted OD mod stock using the NEA adaptor as I don't really need it now ...... might just show up in EE if one of my buddies doesn't want it
