Well I know these things are not classified as a firearm so why are they so hard to find. The U.S. wont ship em over either. Its the last thing I need to make my AR "complete".

M203's (40mm) are banned from export and controlled items in the U.S

There are a few, with luck that have been able to import 37mm "flare launchers" which are not controlled.

There are very few actual M203's in the country. IF you find one, and IF you can get the guy to sell, it's going to cost you around $3000 or more.

When importers started bring in the M-203 in the late 80's they were $350 a piece and they couldn't even sell them at that price. No one wanted them. In the early 90's they went for about $1000. Now everyone wants them and they are going for $3000-$3500.

Maybe a good project for Dlask?
There were a few companies looking at making them. The big issue was how to rifle the barrels for a decent price.

edit: Yes, I meant rifle the barrel, not thread.

Too bad you couldnt get a non rifled model cause who can get grenades anyway? Still it would look good on the ar and even make a good potatoe gun. hehe!

I am the guy working on the made in Canada M203.

Yes we are still working on it. No we have not made much progess.

We have completed a prototype free-float mount, found the bugs, found some outright errors, and have redesigned. We have not cut steel (aluminum) on the Mod 2 mount. The M203 is a proven design, we are not concerned w/ the prototyping of it, just our new mount system.

Again we still have barrels as an issue, and I have just recently explored a new option and waiting for a reply due in aprilish.

And y'all have to remember, I am doing this project while working some wicked long hours @ work, renovating the house (bathroom now), and a 9 month old.

We are hoping to have this wrapped up this year, but we are doing this right, not half-assed, so smoothbore barrels will only be a LAST resort, and If that is the last resort, this project might get canned.

Patience is a virtue I have been told, and there is no one more anxious to get the off the ground than me. (well maybe KevinB:p )

Any way I will be setting up a poll in the next couple weeks, as to which rail systems you guys would like to see this thing adapted to for FF mounting.

Ardent - PM me where you got that......

What are the chances I could borrow and reverse engineer?

Something similar sent by PM as well;

It's a Heckler und Koch AG36 40mm with M4 mount, and if FAR superior to the M203. In fact, it is the M203's replacement (confirmed by US armed forces contract agreement recently). Its rounds are not limited in length like the M203, as it loads from the side. It can be fired as a stand alone unit due to pistol grip and integral sight, also much neater than the M203. As well, it is double action, so there is no need to #### for each shot, like the M203.

It attaches to the bayo lug and barrel nut with one easy motion, then locks with a set screw. Comes off just as fast.

As for where I got it, they came in as Law Enforcement items, and I was able to procure one for only 3 of my 4 limbs. There are only a few out there, and H&K was pissed some leaked. A few of the others out there are missing parts as well, that needless to say are impossible to get.

For this one, the patent is alive and well, unlike the M203. As well, it is largely polymer in construction, like most things H&K these days. If you wanted to study it, we could probably work something out, but I'd deffinately need a deposit of some kind as it's a $5000-$6000 item, whether it be guns to play with in the meantime or something :D
