M203 Grenade launcher for ar15

It's pretty easy to make a replica M203 accept any length round. Just push on the barrel stop catch at the end of the receiver, slide the barrel farther open, or right off, slide in a 12" goodie, slide back on, off ya go :) Works wonders for the rocket propelled rounds.

Only an option if you don't have an upper handguard in place.

Good point ;) No upper handguard on mine. But then again, I removed the barrel stop catch and replaced it with a ball detent, so you open the barrel, it'll slide open and stop at the proper spot, a firm tug then just pull it off, but i'm sure with the abuse real ones take, slamming in the cartridge, etc, a ball detent wouldn't suffice ;)

And y'all have to remember, I am doing this project while working some wicked long hours @ work, renovating the house (bathroom now), and a 9 month old.

Mike
You are renovating a 9 month old?... Are you just replacing older parts or are you planning to re-upholster it as well?

:D

I think I know of the ones you speak of :) But I thought there were only 2, and that one was missing the sight assembly.

+2.

I had one in my hands for examination.:D

NICE piece of kit I must say.

Also just so no one gets tooo excited, IF a Canadian made version becomes a reality, realistically it will still probably be around the $2500.00 to $3000.00 price range.

I remember hearing 1500$ to 2000$ range.

IIRC, KevinB figure that $2500.00 would probably end up being the rough price, and that they would be good sellers if around that price.

But if they end up cheaper, thats even better!!!:D

It just seems that some people (I have talked to) are figuring under the $1000.00 or there abouts.

I personally don't think that if we see them, they won't be under $2500.00.

LMT sells theirs at 1400 to 1500USD range to LE, what makes you think they would be sold at 1000 cdn?

I don't think that.

Some I talk to feel that because a Canadian shop is going to make one, it will be far cheaper then the U.S. made one.

What they have no idea about is R&D costs, and the cost of mill/CNC time. And the fact that to make this as cheap as possible, you would have to manufacture & sell LOTS of these units.

I still stand by my minimum $2500.00 guesstimate.;)

The 2500 figure of KevinB is close. - The biggest fly in the ointment is what the barrels are going to cost, which at this point is completely unknown.

Also bear in mind that there are mount costs as well, on a std M203 a KAC QD mount is 325 USD. That is on top of the 1400 USD = 1725 USD, roughly 2K. @ 1.16.

We are trying our best to keep the cost down, as we are enthusists (sp) too, and want them in your hands.

BUT - we have to not loose money, and we want to do this project right, not half assed. Mil-Spec anodizing and engraving - it just all adds cost.

Anyway enough rambling for the day.

Oh - and to the people that think 1K is realistic, CNC time is 100 - 150 an hour.

I had 11 hours of manual time into the prototype MOUNT, which is cheaper @ 72 an hr.

It definatly takes more than 8 hrs of machining, doing them in small quantities, for the reciever only, and we haven't got into the small parts, and of course the barrel.

Seems like a whole lot of money wasted on something that can't be used for what it was designed for, just so the guy next to you on the range "might" think you're cool. Even the debate of smooth bore versus rifled seems senseless as I cannot envision anybody lobbying grenades through windows.

Oh well in for a penny in for a pound. I also can't see the point of spending $3000 for a Swiss sheet metal rifle, or $5,500 for a German plastic rifle to feel "elite."

But that is just an opinion. I know I'm not alone on this one, but hey....knock yourself out. To each his own. So by all means, go for it! Just tell me what the purpose of it is.......please. There are no wrong answers.

I shoot paper, dirt mounds, you name it for fun, like anything else. And I do this out to 300 yards. I'd hate to try that with a non rifled bore, ain't gonna happen.

Same concept but on a lower price scale; why the hell own a VZ/CZ when there are others that do any job it can do in Canada better? Why the hell own one at all? Because some of us like them, collect military paraphenalia, and generally enjoy ownership.

I couldn't give a crap what the next guy at the range thinks of it, in fact I prefer a quiet day on the range as I get less questions and such. Happy to BS with friends, but 40's generate a crap storm of range gawkers and I'd prefer to skip that part, but if it gets people interested, it's all good.

I'm going out on a very solid limb here in saying that you're issue sounds like financial bitterness, and needs to be separated from the skinny of it all. If you own restricted's, you belong to this club too. You buy them 'cause you like them, there's nothing else to it. Saying 'why by a ferrari you can't use it the way it's designed to' is the same crap. People like them. I would have expected you to understand that.
