M4 carbines

If these are the same as the last batch to come in, the chambering is 5.56mm since the uppers are designed for military use (chrome/ FA Carrier properly staked/ Taper Pinned/ Bayonet Lug etc.) These were a great deal at $900 - 100% reliable, 99% interchangeable parts, shoot into 2" at 100 yards - they're incredible at $700, don't buy one, buy 2 - or as Hungry says, "your d*ck will fall off"

When you say 99% interchangeable, what parts of it is not compatible with other AR-15's?

The ambi-safety can be awkward to replace too, due to the way it's held together, that said apart from the safety I've got a Stag trigger/hammer in mine, a Hogue grip, MOE stock, Midwest FF rail and Vortex FH. You can have a ton of fun replacing parts, or run it stock - either way a terrific value.

I heard many stories about the quality of the ambi safety. And from the pictures I've seen, I would like to remove that as well when mine arrives. How hard is it to swap the safety out in a scale of 1/10 for someone that hasn't disassembled an AR before?

You'll need to take out the whole hammer/trigger system and pistol grip.
not too hard, about 5 on your scale.

newb question, what does the carry handle attach to, proprietary mounting points or a normal rail or some sort?

The upper receiver is a "flat-top" (railed)... the carry handle mounts on the rail, secured w/ thumb screws...

If you replace the ambi safety does the selector then go into the right position? Remember something about a goofy safety or fire position on these.

We should be careful when writing about selector switch. I know what you mean, but the nice folks at the RCMP don't like discussion of swapping of trigger-safety parts (even if if remains semi)... just be be careful, since these rifles are probably still not yet arrived at the warehouse.

Johnone, feel free to edit this thread.
I've ordered a Type 97 from CanAm and had enough of this fiasco.

whats the issue with the ambi-safety?
i personaly like the idea of ambi.
does it not work properly or something else.
can someone explain the difference on internals, because removing firing components is not the usual way to change a saftey. can someone post pics of there Norinco internals?
thanks

Just not in the cards for me right now. Seriously though, Johnone is "King of the Sea Containers". I seriously doubt anyone who's order number comes under 3-4000, has anything to fear about stock running out. $699 C4's, Johnone is a smart enough businessman, to realize, there is more than a few dozen people who'll want to pick one up.

The ambi safety works fine no reason to change it out..I just dont really like an ambi so I thought I would swap it out when I installed a RRA LPK that I had on hand.

Damn, I'm conflicted on this. It is as good a deal as will ever be found on an AR, but I can't really see getting much use with it as a restricted. My pistols I can use to shoot IDPA, but there is not much for the AR around here. At least I could sell it if I don't like it, I guess.

Anyone got any really convincing arguments as to why I need one?

Mark
