M40 Family - Who owns one?

He did a nice job who ever painted your stock.

Thanks, plus it was purchased back in the 90’s when the patterns and dyes were a little different. It only took a little finessing of the Camo pattern to make it look smear-esque

I will try something like that with my woodland spec stock I picked up a few months ago for build #2

There was a “finger smear” on auction a few weeks ago but it wasn’t a return stock but was definitely a late 70’s McMillan. It reached $1200 USD and I thought that would be money for the next MST-100 that I still need to get so I didn’t bite.

That and I picked up an M1A Super Match that is getting tuned up a bit too including an McM Camo stock that I need to bed and add a rear torque screw and pillar.

Wow...that looks amazing, you must be happy with that!

Did you use that standard McMillan sku # then just add the texture or did you do a from scratch build sheet for your stock order?

I’m almost done my .223 look alike, then I’ll order the spec stock for the .308 clone, just not sure if I should attempt the full detail clone or tweak it to have it quicker. I have a line on a 6-digit rifle so that may steer me one way as well...if the owner will give it up..

Nice to see this thread alive again!!

PT&G is likely the most available steel BDL floorplate....other options if you can find them are Williams, Sunny Hill, Badger Ord., DD Ross.
HS Precision will fit in a BDL inlet if you want mag fed and are steel.

Another option is a limited run of 5R Police models from Remington came with heavier steel BDL floorplate that may be available to order.

Yes, the Red Deer Shooting Center or Pacific Tool & Gauge can set you up I'm sure,,, give them a call or email...

I've been covering some ground with mine this year,,, no shortage of mud and snow here in the Rocky Mountain Range,,, Ha...

The other day I had to swab the barrel since alot of that crap got into the action,,, a quick wipe with a couple of clearing shots to make sure the old rifle is still on target at 200 meters...

Good thing that I have the fast draw forward mount Australia rifle sling,,, what a benefit when the critters try to bolt... Hopefully we get onto the Moose up here in the North...

Good times fore sure...

Cheers from the North

Played hooky this morning to go shooting. Took some time to fine tune my zero, and then burned off a few to see how I'm doing. I need to work on my consistency, I see the potential in this rifle. Every stray was one I could feel was off as I squeezed.

I burned off the last of the 175 gr I had with me making noise on the plate at 328 yds. No big distance, but at least I rang it every time. Packed up the Remington and took out my stubby Colt at the shorter range. Wouldn't win any competitions with this one, it patterns more than groups.

Wicked looking rifles! Sweet combo as well! Sort of a sniper/spotter sort of thing :d

I've been packing my beast hunting the past couple weekends. She's a heavy beast but I'm confident with it!

Yeah they're heavy. I'm not confident with a standing shot with mine yet, I need something to lay it across to get even reasonable results.

The 10.5" Colt is ok for 50 yds haha. I haven't had a lot of success (or practice) with it beyond that. Fist sized groups if I'm shooting unsupported. Another one I need to use more.....

Yeah standing offhand isn't going to happen with this rifle!

I carry my ruck when hunting and will take supported shots.
