MAC-10s and Cobrays

About 35 years ago went to a gun show in Ohio. Mac 10's with wood stocks were $115. Seller said he just needed to see my driver's license. Said I was from Canada. He replied "if the gun was going out of state he didn't need to see my driver's license"

John, could you elaborate on what would need to be done to a unit to deactivate it? Very interested in one but reluctant, would be a shame if someone has a need for them in live form.

Gentlemen,
Many thanks for a very interesting thread, based on the experiences of some of the 'elder statesmen' on CGN.
I am relatively 'late' into firearms, for such an old fart, and regret missing out on our prior "Golden Age".

I have always had a soft spot for the MAC. I have shot a few of them over the years. The highlight was getting to shoot an original Powder Springs MAC with an original Sionics suppressor. Doesn't get much cooler than that.

Yep, loved that movie and this was prob what started my interest in the MAC.

These are not going for "Sten gun" prices, I am open to serious offers only!

John, save one for me. Just gotta get the company bringing in some more dough and I'll buy one off you. No need to neuter it or anything. :D

Does anyone remember the open bolt semi-auto only version of the MAC that was sold in Canada maybe ten years ago? It was made somewhere in EU IIRC. Always wanted one of those but didn't get one at the time. :(

An open bolt, semi auto MAC in 2003? Oh yeah! I think it was sold by Jack's Unicorn and Hen's Teeth Supply.

It wasn't made by MAC. It was made somewhere in EU and was essentially a copy of a MAC. And yes it existed, I remember handling one at TSE a bunch of years ago. It had a threaded barrel shroud extension.

Just a stupid question :

The Mac10 is not prohibited in canada ?

Kind of. There are FA MAC guns which are classed as 12-2 Prohibs. There are also SA MAC guns which are classed as 12-4 Prohibs. I have never run into one but I would be surprised if there are not a few CA MAC guns in the country which would be classed 12-3 Prohibs.

So yes technically the MAC is prohibited but there are lots of them in the country legally held by 12-x licence holders.

Are you thinking of a South African BXP? Semis are closed bolt, only full auto ones are open bolt.

If not, I'd be most curious to know to what you refer, and where they can be had.
