Maccabee Defense SLR information and updates

Because like it or not the Canadian consumer actually needs a little protection from shady business practices. That's why we have rules in regards to credit cards and interest, rent increases, auto warranty, gift card expiration dates, fast food calorie counts, etc.

These are not all assaults on freedom.

Buyer beware only goes so far, and the fact of the matter is that most of us are truly uninformed and need a little guidance.

I wish that wasn't the case, but history has proven it time and again.

Lot's of the people commenting here have only been on the board for 2, 3, maybe five years. Many of those of us who are against the more questionable presales, especially this 100% cash up front BS with loose delivery dates, have been here 10+ years and seen so many presale fails that maybe we're not just shooting from the hip and have some actual valid experience to share.

Mopar makes some good points . But have bing been a founding member of cgn. Some 15/16rs now??
I have seen some epic fails on pre orders.
Ans I have seen some very well organised and we'll planed one's.
I think it all depends on who the comany is and who is involved in making it happen.

I think moderate deposits to hold place are fine, but I do not agree with pre-sales, especially with the roll out of a new product. I genuinely don't believe Maccabee will meet their estimated delivery dates. This is nothing against them, it's just from my personal experience in manufacturing. There's always something that can go wrong. Of course, I could be totally wrong. Maybe Maccabee has everything ready to go.

For example, just recently I had a case of totally unexpected issue completely destroying a delivery time. Prototype parts worked excellent, so I made a larger batch to fill the order. Final operation on one of the parts is a slight bend and they all cracked at the bend. Just a slightly different batch of aluminum, couldn't handle the same bend as was done on the prototypes. I re-designed the part and changed the bending process and all was well but I missed the delivery date. Stuff like that, especially on new products, always pop up.

There's a reason why the delivery date is "expected" and I've already waited 10yrs for a rifle like this, a delay won't kill me.
I know well enough too, I can tell you something should take 10min, and I could still be working at it a couple hours later cause sht happens.

I don’t have a problem with putting down some money in this case, if it somewhere more then a few hundred bucks that will separates the people that really want it from the tire kickers.

What do people expect the weight to be on this gun fully built? I looked at some 18” DD guns, and they are about 7-7.5 lbs. Does that sound about right in this case? I prefer a lighter gun then my ACR, it has a custom 18” barrel and it feels quite heavy.

It all depends on your barrel profile, handguard material, stock, and optic.

Ya it's 18.5+ inches, but go with a skinny barrel or carbon fiber and you could get really quite light.

It will be quite interesting seeing the builds that ultimately result from these.

I would like to see video of takedown/assembly to determine if the screw is a big deal or not. Personally, I'm leaning towards not being concerned much at all. For me personally, I'm not going to be taking this rifle apart all the time. No more than any of my other hunting rifles, and that's not often.

I'd be more than a little concerned if it's a DI gun. They require regular cleaning to work properly.

Not being able to field strip it without taking out a small nut/screw would be a concern for me.

I'm in the camp that find it odd people think the take-down screw is such a concern.

I think I'll be jumping on this group buy to convert one of my AR's to non-restricted!

Yeah, like every 500-1000 rounds. Or far, far more............................. :)

Depends, guys who are worried may be use to corrosive 7.62x39 or even the ultra dirty norinco 556 that was around. With decent ammo there is no need to strip the rifle down after every hunting or range trip.

I could see wanting to clean after corrosive or dirty stuff, that's true.

But using AE, PMC, PPU etc in a .223, it can go a long time without cleaning. And for me, this rifle won't be getting the typical pew pew pew of several hundred rounds a day at the range like my AR's do.

I see these as more of a hunting rifle, shooting good hunting ammo, or chambered in 6.5 gendel or similar. Leave the AR as a range lead hose, and the sks/jr carbines etc as the cheap to operate non-restricted pew pew guns.

Exactly, unless someone starts holding 3 gun comps on crown land where a NR would be required, I don't see many using anything but a restricted length AR

That's my feelings as well.

Which is why I don't think I fear using a bolt or screw instead of a pin. :)
