Doesn't the cost of the tariff get borne by the purchaser though, even if indirectly? Seller would have to incorporate it into their price, no?
I would imagine if tariff is imposed, it will be added to the pre-sale price + margin. Say a gadget is sold for 1560. The import cost is 1000 and assume margin is 25% at each level. It is sold to the retailer at 1250. Let's say a tariff is 20%. The importer cannot afford to eat that. The cost to retail becomes 1500. The retail cannot make 60 margin on paper because shipping and other costs are not included yet, it will be a loss for each unit. The new cost will be at least 1875.

You read that right - the new price is not just a direct transmission of the tariff but tariff +margin, because tying up capital has a cost and it needs return.

From the importer perspective, tariff is a cost, a cost of good sold or capital sitting in inventory. It is no different from any other costs.

I added a poll to this thread. For people who actually pre-ordered one, the other, or both. Not necessarily for people who may WANT one...but it is for people who have actually put in a pre-order
Should add the cancellation aspect to the thread. I initially put money down for the Makasi, then cancelled due to the QC issues, lack of accuracy, and fail to feed issues.

I have added an cancel all together or changed pre-order from one to another as a poll option. I could add one that said not interested in either, but that's not the point - just wanted to find out who put in pre-orders and if so, for what. I know there are members who pre-ordered more than one, but I just left the single option as the choice

I think that you are exaggerating the documented "shortcomings" of the Brigade Makasi. The QC issues with the Handguard screw misalignment, the Charging Handle impingement and Picatinny/MLOC tolerances are admittedly real on the US Restricted versions currently being imported by IRG. That said, the manufacturer claims that those issues have been addressed in the forthcoming NR shipments to Canada. Even if some of the tolerance issues persist, I can easily live with them if I must.

The Makasi's accuracy is fine at 2 MOA with bulk range fodder, so I don't know where you are getting a lack of accuracy from. Compared to what? Similarly, a single report of reliability issues does not constitute a trend and warranty service should not be a concern with Gravel as the Distributor. So that leaves the QC issues, which the manufacturer claims have already been sorted with the Canadian shipments. Based on that, I see no compelling reason to second-guess my original attraction to the Makasi's modularity, partial AR-compatibility for critical spare parts, short-stroke operating system and attractive appearance.

TBH
Complaining about having some more options in a market with diminishing opportunities is a bit puzzling to “pragmatic me”.

Now, if the genuine FAL (original or modern DSA) was commercially available in Canada I just wouldn’t ever get there with the Makasi.

That said: If my aunt had a dink she’d be my uncle.

I also havent received any update. Anyone have any updated eta on the Carmel.

The Masaki also seems to have missed its delivery with no updated eta.
