Marihuana at Hunting Camp.

If marijuana was legal and booze was illegal we’d be having the same discussion. It is what it is, people do what they want to do and that’s life.

Set the rules about using it up front so there is no gray area and move along.

First thing I thought of when I saw that pic :)

.

I never called gatehouse a criminal, but the fact still remains that not legally storing your rifle when not in use is a criminal offence.... if gatehouse and heronfish choose to gamble and ignore this fact, that is theirs to do.......

You make quite a few presumptions and assumptions. And don't seem to really know laws very well, either.

My hunt camp is a dwelling.... as I am sure you are aware, when inside a dwelling and not being used firearms must be trigger locked or locked in a cabinet.....

You know what else is considered a "dwelling?" A tent.

Call me what you will but I don't believe firearms and impearment go together.Just like driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
At 14 years old I was nearly shot in camp by one of my father's hunting buddies. He decided to oil his 30 30 after a few cold ones and apparently there was one still in the mag tube. He cycled the action after oiling ,pointed the muzzle at the floor and I guess the hammer slipped from under his thumb as he lowered it.... the bullet went through the floor 3 or 4 inches from my foot.
Got everyone's attention I can tell you.
There were all kinds of camp rules the next fall.

It sounds like the problem happened before a few cold ones because he never cleared the firearm after hunting or had it cleared period, when I assume he was still sober.

My family has been hunting with the same group for 3 generations. Grandfathers, Fathers, sons... number four is coming up fast.

Beer, rum, wine, whiskey and yes a little weed have been around the whole time. In the 60ish odd years nobody has been shot, killed or even seriously hurt.

I can think of one AD and one physical fight. The AD was an accident as somebody was lowering the hammer on a scoped 336 (I was beside the fellow) and the fight... well I can assure you that had nothing to do with dope and everything to do with whiskey and ego.

Hahahhahaha. Hunting camp is a place to relax and have fun. Heck last year we got so drunk we missed opening day... Hahahhahaha I think I woke up around 4pm hung over and still half in the bag.

You know who didnt miss opening day in our group? The 2 guys that dont drink but smoked reefer.

Weird how some of the snowflakes here think drinking is ok but smoking isnt...lol

Wish there was a like button for this...

I can't recall exactly but I do know it was common practice to un load outside and cycle the action several times before entering the camp.
I don't care what people do on their own time but I do believe that everyone should go home intact.
If I'm in camp and the boys are on the liquor the guns stay out of hands. If people feel the need to handle firearms while drinking I don't make a big deal about it I just leave.
Your camp your choice.
I don't want to hunt the next day with a group of hungover, foggy brained fumbling tools either.
Don't get me wrong I like a good drink of rum or wiskey ocassionally. Just not while driving , shooting , using a chain saw.. you know these sorts of things.

I do agree with you that when the cocktails come out, the firearms are put away.

Duh??
Lets have a survey !!

So... the guy who busts Brad’s balls for having a few rules at camp, is the same guy who equates poaching with getting back to camp 5 minutes late?

Seems like a bit of a double standard, doesn’t it? Oh wait, I just remembered you used to be a leo, right? Ok nevermind. The double standard thing makes sense now. Carry on.

Which guy?

SERF
noun
1.
a person in a condition of servitude, required to render services to a lord, commonly attached to the lord's land and transferred with it from one owner to another.
2.
a slave.

What say you My Lord ! ( I know you like that ).

That’s a nifty online dictionary you found there! Tell me... what comes up when you type in “poaching”?...

I can't believe how much traffic this thread is getting. It's pretty comical.
I bet 1/2 of the guys here rabidly posting anti marijuana sentiments are just too chicken to admit they toke and are worried what thier CGN buddies are gonna think hahaha

I bet you are right. No one wants to be labeled a pot head, well not till it's legal anyways. I smoked weed for many years and even did my electrical schooling while high most times. I haven't smoked in many years and only because of drug testing at work. I may indulge again when I retire in the next few years and enjoy being stoned while fishing and enjoying my days. I did some of my exams after a few puffs and scored 100% on some of them because I could relax, not being stressed, while doing them. I will add that many of the best trades people I know smoke weed, in their free time, are always at work and work harder than most.
