I have been interested in a Marlin 795. I am looking at peoples opinions about this firearm. I recognise that this retails for about $180 so I don't expect the world out of this. I'm not interested in upgrades much beyond at new mag and a scope. My main use would be plinking, the odd squirrel and some target shooting with the kids. What should I expect as far as the gun quality after several thousand rounds. I know Remington purchased Marlin some time ago, has the manufacturing quality changed during this time from the originals. If you own one would you buy another?
Thanks in advanced.

i bought one new about 2-3 years ago and it was a great gun. i don't recall it being picky on what it ate, the odd fail to eject maybe. my only complaint is i couldn't find any local suppliers with 25 round mags (not sure if they were even made for it).

For the price i was very happy with the purchase.

The 795 is a really nice rifle. Reliable, accurate, gets very good reviews.
There are at least 2 dealers here that sell the 25 round mags. Bullseye Sports and High Caliber.

Great rifles. Much more accurate than a 1022 at half the price. Got a couple thousand rounds through mine. Lots of gophers. Get a 4X Simmons 22 mag scope, very clear for $69. I use a pellet gun scope mount called a UTG medium profile available on Amazon for $19. More secure than regular scope rings.
Also have the Marlin Papoose which is amazing for a takedown. Check for the open sights being aligned exactly on the middle top of the barrel. Mine were slightly canted on the Papoose.

I have 2~1 blued...1 stainless. Great semis for the $ without a doubt. Way more accurate than a factory 10/22 for less money. Nice features too like an adult-sized charging handle, last shot bolt hold-open, action release, etc. Trigger is as bad as a 10/22, sights even worse~but the plans were always to scope mine...which I did.

Great price and very accurate. More accurate than 10/22. Best value in rimfire rifles. I've put about 2000 rounds through mine with no issues. I did upgrade the trigger to improve the feel and reduce over travel. it didn't need it but made a difference for me. Its the rifle I recommend when someone asks me what first rimfire to buy. The one I tell them to buy after is the CZ455 bolt action or a Dlask Dar-22 if they want more precision.

my go to fun gun. trigger can be worked, very carefully, to make it better, not great but better. try different ammo to see what it likes. stay away from high velocity, not designed for it. may not cycle properly with low velocities. parts are available, but they don't break easily. easy to clean, take apart. scopes tend to walk on that aluminium dovetail.a nice .22 for the money.

Yes. Regular Scope rings walk on the dove tail eventually, that's why I recommend a UTG pellet gun scope mount. Way stronger and grips the dove tail completely at a quarter the price too.

Got mine a few years ago, very accurate out of the box. got a few of the 25 round promag mags last year and that's even better. lovely gun.

I've heard that...but it hasn't been my experience. I have the large 1-pc. mount on my stainless, regular rings on the blued. Neither have moved.

Love mine! Eats anything I put in it. I stick mostly to higher velocity rounds. easy to clean.

If you get one, make sure you get a "baby uplula" to help load your mags. works great, and it's easy on the finger.

Also, my scope walks like crazy. I will be investing in the rings mentioned earlier.

I have a 10/22 and a 795.

The 10/22 is a safe queen, haven't taken it out of the cabinet in over a year.

The 795 was the angel of death for hundreds of gophers this year. Bought it a nice new Boyds stock as a reward for fine service.

Just for kicks, after zeroing it at 25 yards, I decided to put some effort into a group. 25 yards, front sandbag rest, 7 shot group (because I had a full factory 7 round mag sitting on the bench). CCI Mini Mags.

My 10/22 simply will not do that.

Accurate. Reliable. It's what you want in a good semi auto .22 rifle.

(p.s. For the $180 they go for new, you can add a Boyds stock, and a basic scope and rings, and still come out less than what you'd pay for a stock bog standard 10/22 carbine ).

I have had a 795SS for 10-11 years now with around 45,000+ rounds through it, still as accurate as the day I bought it. It's is my primary gopher gun. I have only replaced the trigger with the DIP kit. Buy the Marlin with confidence.
