Marlin Model 60? Need to buy a few so.....

I remember my 2 x 60s, older ones from the 70s and 80s IIRC, did not have last shot bolt open. I remember pulling the trigger on empty chambers when it runs dry.

You could lock the bolt open by opening the bolt and pulling out the bolt handle.

Yeah, that's one of the reasons I've been slow getting a 60. I don't like dry firing a rimfire, some will tolerate it, many won't. Add the fact that I have trouble counting past five, and it's a recipe for disaster..

New model 60's and 795's have the LSHO feature. Not sure what year they started but any new model will have it.

2 model 60s here bought within 4 years and they have the bolt open feature. If you don't like reloading them, Just get a spee-d-loader 15. I got 2 and would not go back to loading magazines. A few videos can be found on those

I just looked in the "my .22 shoots 1/2" groups" thread. I didn't see any Marlins represented there.

That said they are a good value as a plinking rifle.

you dont see any stock 10/22's either. I think there is a couple savages and the 597 on there had a custom barrel done.

Plinking and target shooting at worlds apart... My sks is a plinker, my tavor is a plinker. My custom bolt gun is not.

C'mon now

My marlin 60 is there. Page 99 average of .355. I consider mine anyway better than a plinking rifle.

That's good to know.. they're back on my list now! I don't mind a tube magazine since most of my shooting is at a leisurely pace.
I noticed a 60 on the EE a couple days ago for $165 shipped. It was a "blued and plastic" version, I'm partial to walnut unfortunately.
An LGS near me has the walnut version for about $350.

What happened to the 7000? I believe it was called the 'Squirel' rifle
Can't call them practical names like that any more, Muffin might find it offensive. Remember the uproar in Halifax over Canadian Tire selling Savage rifles?

My error, as it is the only Marlin on the list I missed it.

My apologies & that was some fine shooting.

Thank you very much and No apologies needed. It was the most frustrating shooting I'd ever did. Can't remember how many times I got not only to the last group, but 3rd and 2nd last shot and would blow it and some groups still only over by .025-.030. Being stubborn and wanting to get it with the bipod when I was sure if I just used a solid rest it would be no problem, didn't help me either. Lol.

A few days ago I knew nothing of the Marlin model 60. I am now seriously keeping an eye out for one. I keep trading away the semi .22 rifles my wife likes. This one looks like a good mix of affordability, quality and fun.

If my memory serves me correctly, the heavy barrel '7000' did not offer any appreciable advantage over the light sporting barrel models and was dropped..whether this was an accurate assessment of it not,I do not know.

I have a Marlin 60, 795, and XT-22 Bolt. Here's my take on them.
Marlin 60 - affordable, reliable, and light. It will fire anything that I've put through it, and I've put about 300 rounds through it no issues. Nice and accurate. I love the tube magazine, but I grew up using a cooey model 60 so I might be a bit biased. I find I can load 14 in the tube faster than I can load 10 in the detachable mags of the other two. Trigger on the 60 and 795 are pretty heavy, but I've noticed the 60 has gotten better as it breaks in.
Marlin 795 - really the same animal as the model 60, just detachable magazine. I haven't shot it as much as the 60 but its been plenty reliable so far.
XT-22 - A bit more expensive than the semi-autos but I'm pretty impressed with this gun. Out of the box I was shooting magpies at 30-40 yards with iron sites and no tinkering. Can be bought in either detachable magazine (own) or tube magazine style (would buy next time). Definitely has a better trigger than the semi-autos, a lot lighter and better feel.
