marstar 70,000/10,000 SKS, eta aug 20th, price $189 new military.

Ya, just think, there are hundreds of thousands of sks's out there (if not millions) and there are tens if not hundreds of millions of ak's out there. Plus all of the other variants of 7.62x39 firearms. I think we are going to be pretty safe with world supply of ammunition.

There more than likely are billions of rounds of 7.62x39 in storage around the world. That isn't the problem.
The problem comes from putting together the provenance for the import licence to get it into Canada.

John must pull out his hair on a regular basis when dealing with foreign and domestic bureaucracies. I hope at least in Canada, he is only dealing with the inflated egos of Liberal picked bureaucrats but in other countries, he is more than likely dealing with "Baksheesh" as well, not to mention out and out thievery.

70,000 sks rifles is a huge shipment. There are a lot of greedy eyes around the world that would like to get their hands on them, any way they can. By hook or by crook. I'm willing to bet the ship they will be loaded onto will be under constant surveillance as well as scrutiny by thieves and friends at all times. Security for this will be darned expensive. It will have to be on the rifles from point of purchase to the warehouse in Canada or wherever they're going.

This alone will raise the cost of the rifles substantially. Buying sks rifles from European governments will seem like a dream, compared to this nightmare situation. Even if the rifles were bought for $10 apiece, it will cost 5 times that much just for security. Then there is handling, shipping, warehousing and distribution charges, not to mention import taxes if any.

$120 sks rifles? Maybe, but doubtful IMHO.

Until the price has been set, we can dream correct? If they are $100-120 rifles alot of people are going to buy them to stock up on extra rifles.

be interesting to see what comes in. country of manufacture, etc. i doubt that more than 5000 will be released to the canadian market, most business works on volume and the volume sales are south of us. of course who knows with US laws regarding import/country of manufacture and all that jazz.

i would love to see $75 sks' like in the mid 1990's.

i doubt that more than 5000 will be released to the canadian market,

if john knock the socks off us, we will be buying in crates , 5000 is way too little , thats only 500 crates of 10 so on a one crate per customer, thats only enuff for 500 CGN members.

john:

1. will these SKS have any marking that indicate which country they were imported from?

2. how are they pinned ?

John, also any vague idea on the price point? I know people are bouncing around 100-120 but I didn't see anything form you on this. I know you can't give us a definitive, and may not even want to speculate but... would this range be a possibility if everything goes as expected with the export, shipment, import and all of that? Just trying to save myself and others from getting their hopes up for something that may have never even been a possibility. I guess it could also save you the potential headache of people saying "well he never said it wouldn't be that price in the thread!" if it ends up being more.

Keep up the good work!

GOMMEE;
"Can you tell us how the MAGS will be pinned?" TO MEET CANADIAN STANDARDS....

Are you bringing in more ammo?" IN WHAT FLAVOR ??

John

ROB SMITH AND OTHERS;
Re 7.62x39 ammo.... The Czech made ball surplus is running low, we have a few million more due in a couple weeks....
We don't have any contracts in place as yet for 2010, the American Government has been buying everything in sight for their "allies" in Iraq....
All I can say is As it stands today what is in the "pipeline" is it....
John

RIVETC78;
"You don't seriously think there would be a shortage of 7.62x39? LOL"

PERHAPS ONE SHOULD GO BACK 18-24 months when we said there would be a serious shortage because of US Government purchasing on the surplus market....

I think we all remember last year when it was all but impossible to find any surplus in Canada....

Nobody seems to realize just how volatile the surplus market can be....It can be feast or famine, nothing in between....

OUTOFTOWNER;
"I think we are going to be pretty safe with world supply of ammunition. "

THE WORLD SUPPLY IS NOT THE QUESTION, finding ammo that Ottawa will allow us peasants to have in Canada IS the major issue....

I'm sure you are aware the Russian SKS's that came in the last yr or so had the mags pinned 2 ways . One had a rod welded to the follower (did not affect appearance ) The other had a plug welded to the inside of the housing that destroyed the ser # & bluing on the bottom of the mag .

BEARHUNTER;
NO PURCHASES ARE A DREAM, this I can garanty.... We were dealing behind the "iron curtain" for example, long before it came down....

For instance, Marstar was the first western company permitted to open an office in Bulgaria, BEFORE the revolution in 1991....

I was the first westerner permitted to visit military basis in that country to inspect and purchase military goods....

Remember that we have been operating in the former Yugoslavia since 1984, before the two wars, during the wars, after the wars.... We still have facilities there....

We have operated in many "interesting corners" of the world, that said one never gets used to the many twists any deal can take on in a hurry....

IF YOU MEAN ARE WE MARKING THEM ? NO ARE THEY MARKED BY THE VENDOR GOVERNMENT ? ALSO NO

2. how are they pinned ? TO MEET CANADIAN LAWS....

Sounds like you could have been a technical advisor on the movie Lord Of War ,

REGARDING PINNING;
AS most of you are well aware, Marstar always tries to offer "modified" magazines with the least possible damage done to apperance....
John

JSQUIG;
""well he never said it wouldn't be that price in the thread!"
I FULLY UNNDERSTAND YOUR DESIRE TO KNOW WHAT THE PRICES WILL BE....
Please understand, as I have noted in previous replies, Murphy's law applies, If something can go wrong, it will go wrong....

We are dealing in a part of the world that is very "challenging" to say the least, transport and shipping will be another challenge we will face, security is yet another....

BUT ler me ask you a question, when is the last time Marstar dis not make you happy with an offereing ??

Regards
John
