I agree with you Phil, a weekend day is a great time to set up a match, and 1 or 2 evenings for those that were unavailable on the weekend would be even better. Problem at EOHC is we have no hydro and therefore no flood lamps and it gets dark at 7pm now. With flood lights a work party from 6pm to 9 or 10 pm would be great!

Also, I guess an email sent to all local IPSC shooters with the volunteer time slots would be helpful. It would make the match director's job easier too. Dr. Nick, make sure my email is on the list!:)

Wow, would that make for some well fed mosquitos!

Good point, Bartledan. There aren't too many bugs mid-August onward, especially October. In the spring however.....

By the way hope B.C. is treating you well!

I think sponsor tables at the nationals are an important thing. In many cases, it's a way to get a shooter back in the game when equipment fails. It offers a chance for people to see new and interesting equipment and it adds to the general atmosphere of a big match.

I don't and would rather see you patching. No patching no shooting. If someones firearm breaks during a match it's part of the game sorry! Maybe they should stop selling shirts and shorts with manufactures logos on them 'cause it's usually these guys standing around watching everyone else patching!

Good Plan. Deprive the sponsors of making a living and see how long we can survive. ..............Or maybe we could address it on individual base's.
No work / No sponsor no shoot
or percentage reduction in score.
Penalties assigned after first warning for not actual getting off ass went asked Range officials.

lol what a load of crap... who cares is somebody wants to sponsor and event and not patch..

I have seen alot of GMs (not Omen) who like to stand around and chat and during matches I have not only seen them never patch but actually chit chat and slow things down... I suppose if your really good you feel that you shouldnt patch?

All the same if somebody wants to pay more money or get someone else to do their job who gives a ####?

yeah this is also true...

I suppose some people dont like to patch at all?

Forget what your grade three teacher said: Your opinion is wrong.

Also, uninformed. At matches where the squad which is shooting is expected to patch, I have no doubt the match sponsors patch. FreedomVentures is talking about matches where the shooter shoots on "X" days, and patches/works on "Y" days.

The key word is "works". Matches need workers to run. Maches need money to run. Money is the remuneration for labor. Therefore, the donation of money is the equivalent of match labor, at some floor amount.

USP your statement is is bull ####. You see one or two GMs doing nothing (and I think we all know who he is talking about) and now GMs do nothing and they slow matches down. How many masters work? how many a,b,c,d, class shooters standing around with there fingers up there asses? So if I were to take your way of looking at things..... If you are a lesser shooter you can stand around with your finger up your ass.

I agree with Mobile1. If you look around at a match it is usually the GM's, M's and guys who have been around for years who will jump in to help. Many of these same high end shooters will patch, score keep, jump in and RO, help tear down, etc.

Conversely, in the last couple of years, I've seen quite a few of the newer shooters (C,D,Unclassifed) who won't lift a finger at a match. They see other shooters walking out to patch etc but they stand there like sheep then when it's pointed out nicely that they could help they get their nose out of joint and don't want to shoot with the high end guys.

USP, do yourself a favour and think before you write. Your limited experience is coming through to some of us who have been around but a new or prospective IPSC shooter might think that all GM's and M's are lazy.

People who don't work cross all class divisions. It's easy to target the best shooters and say that they are a bunch of Prima-Donna's, but I have not noticed a greater proportion of any class of shooter not patching or helping. My issue was that I have a problem with bribing your way out of a work shift by paying the match sponsor fee at a National Championship. The ability to afford this is a HUGE and unfair competitive advantage for the person who doesn't have to work and gets to shoot with fresh legs. I know we need sponsors, but this is a National Championship, and in my view, giving only certain people an advantage like that destroys the validity of the data pool, since it is no longer about who is the best shooter; it is about who can buy the best advantage. I don't think that sacrificing fairness for sponsorship is an equitable trade-off. Either every competitor should work or every competitor should not work. You can't have it both ways and still derive meaningful data from the results at awards time. There has to be a better solution.
