This was an incredible match. Fun, challenging, humbling, exhilarating, and exhausting - sometimes all at once!
Lots of iron on the line
I just started shooting precision rifle a few years ago (thanks Barney!) and was dreaming of the day when we could shoot PRS in Canada. Then, through the great efforts of Kris, Ryan, and their indefatigable team, they put together something very special.
First PRS sanctioned event in Canada and the first civilian competition to be held at Meaford (to my limited knowledge). Thanks to the base commander of 4th Canadian Division Training Centre for graciously allowing us the use of the facilities. What a privilege to use these ranges for a sporting competition.
Having organized a shooting match or two in my time, I know a little about what kind of effort was required from all those involved. And the effort was tremendous.
It was inspirational to see the shooting community rally around this event with people from all walks of life participating as match officials. I cannot overstate how much my group of competitors and I appreciate the fact that the organizers, range staff, and their families gave up so much of their precious free time, including the last long weekend of the short Canadian summer to not only host a match of this scale and importance, but to advance the sport itself in Canada. On behalf of my companions, you have our deepest gratitude.
Moving from Cambrai to Caen pad
The
sponsors were extremely generous with a very rich prize table. Insite Arms built a beautiful rifle. Ellwood Epps kindly donated a Desert Tech. Great to see Cadex and PGW rounding out the Canadian content with their fine rifles. Cadex brought a suppressed 308 for competitors to try during sight in. Oh, and they even brought Rob Furlong himself!
The competitors themselves came from all over Canada and the US. Always great to meet shooters from different places, as well as seeing familiar faces. The competition was high level and Matthew Brousseau, the match winner, blew us all away not only with his score, but his graciousness when he gave his prize away to one of the ROs.
I'm sure I've missed someone in all this so apologies in advance. It's been a long, long weekend and I can't wait to do it all over again.
