Meeting place for Newbies and Mentors - BC

I am in Langley, how would you rate the Langley range? Is it worth joining? I am new to shooting, my kids absolutely love it.
too broad of a question. it all depends on what you are shooting and how often you are going to do this.
Langley range is a business. you can walk in with empty hands, get some firearms and ammo from them and have fun!
You can also bring your firearms and ammo and have fun as well.

Depending on what firearms and how often you are gong to shoot, Langley Range may or may not be a good option for you. I don't remember what their range distance, but it's not big. 30yd? maybe. definitely not more than 50yd. So personally for me, shooting precision rimfire rifles, that is not big enough distance. But can be more than enough if you are shooting a shotgun, for example. People are nice at this place.

I have heard it also has a walkable bow course, has anyone used it and is it good?

Any newbie women's groups in the Mission /Maple Ridge area?
Please check out Mission Rod and Gun. The women who pretty much run the place are exceptional. Give them a call and just ask what you want to learn about or are interested in participating in. Cheers

Newbie here. Just bought an M4 (Bass Pro). Should. be here today or very soon. Excited and trying to get up to speed. Looking for other M4 owners / mentors on VI - esp Oceanside area. Thanks

Greetings from North Vancouver !
I’m really into milsurp rifles, so if there’s any mentors that enjoys old rifles, let me know !
I have little experience, I shot only a few times during the past two years, I have been shooting as a guest with a friend at Pemberton range (great range btw) but I’d like to know more about where I could go shoot in the wild so I can go anytime.
I’m thinking areas around squamish or in the north shore area?
It seems that everything is made difficult by the authorities to find a good and legal spot. Anyone could give me some advice?
Thanks in advance !

Does anyone know of any ranges that you can go to and rent/tryout a bunch of handguns on vancouver island or even the lower mainland? The wife and I are looking to purchase our first two and I want to be able to handle and fire a bunch before we choose.
I know this is an old post, but DVC in Coquitlam would be the place to go. Also a tourist option in Whistler, but that's a few hundred bucks

If anyone is in the Squamish area I'd be keen to meet up. I have a bit of experience but mostly with shotguns and rimfires. I'm planning on purchasing a .270 but would quite like to shoot one first to feel the recoil, as well as a 6.5CM.

Recoil will be less in the 6.5 than the 270 but rifle weight as well as projectile weight will affect the felt recoil. Neither is known as a thumper!! The 6.5 are known as light recoiling. Mine is a pussycat and my 270 is easy on the shoulder.

Without a doubt the 6.5 will kick less. Just waiting for Tikka to bring the newer T3X with the threaded barrel. I shot a buddies 30-06 which I assume is going to kick a bit more than the .270

The stock design and the pad on the end can affect the recoil felt as well. A good brake can make nasty thumpers much less nasty but with the added noise factor! And muzzle blast!!

I figured the noise is less of an issue with decent ear pro than a sore shoulder. I guess I won't be shooting it a lot once it's zeroed, only when hunting.

That's good to know. I actually became a member there a couple months ago and have been keeping an eye on their calendar in case anything similar was scheduled but nothing so far. I'll give them a call. Thanks!
I find Mission Rod and Gun very friendly for ladies to start shooting. If you are a member already, they are having an event on May 2nd for women only. You could try to register as an instructor and make more friends with other ladies

Very new to the firearm scene. Waiting on my license to arrive in the mail, should be any day. I will be purchasing a rifle pretty quick and hopefully getting out to Heffley Creek. If there are any members who are out that way, is there anything I should know about the range out there. Their website is pretty vague. I havent contacted anyone from the web page yet, I am going to wait until I actually have a rifle in my possession.

Semiahmoo breeds fish for profit, no shooting.
Old post, I know. Just saw this.

Small correction needed here. Semiahmoo Fish & Game Club is a non-profit. All volunteers. Yes, the hatchery is the main thing at the club. Profit? No. Volunteer thing that costs a bunch of money.

There is shooting there. Very limited in both access and distance. 20 yard indoor range, two nights a week, plus the odd Sunday. Tues is rimfire night and Wed is centrefire handgun too.

Because…. Reasons.

Thanks for the correction. I was just regurgitating information that was not provided by them. Cheers

For those that have little to no experience, this is the place to contact those of us that are willing to meet with you, and let you pop off a few rounds.

TIME PERMITTING, of course, I am willing to take out newbies for a chance to become aquainted with guns. Contact me by PM (Personal Message) by scrolling over my name.
Notice that I am located in Langley, BC.

As this forum grows, more mentors will offer to do the same, and a formal list will be built.
Keep up the mentorship! The mentors I have had over the years aided me greatly!
