Meeting place for Newbies and Mentors - Sask.

Newbie - Saskatoon

Hey all,

Another Saskatoon newbie here. I've had my PAL and .22 for awhile now. I've been shooting the .22 at the family farm near Humboldt whenever I get the chance to head out to see them for the weekend, which I'll admit is not as often as I'd like.

A friend of mine recently got me hooked on the idea of duck hunting, so I broke down and got myself a 12 gauge (Winchester, I'm sure you're shocked). Before I head out with him though, I'd like to get used to the gun, especially after shooting the .22 for so long. Don't worry, I've shot plenty of 12 gauge's in my day, just not this one. I'm just looking for a place to shoot at cans or something for fun in my spare time, if someone wouldn't mind letting me out on their land someplace deserted I'd be greatly appreciative! I've tried the Wildlife Federation but the guy out there told me I could only shoot it on the outdoor range with the clay pigeon thrower and then only if no one objects. Hence the plea for land.

Thanks!

Looking for some hunting partners/shooting buddies.

I live in the Battlefords and am relatively new to the firearms scene. I have hunted big game and upland birds when I was younger and would like to do so again. I am also relatively new to the area, would like to learn from someone more experienced than me about hunting in this part of Saskatchewan. I have my RPAL, my own firearms, and will have completed my hunter's safety test within the next week or so (as soon as I can get a hold of the local SAFE rep. and arrange a time to challenge the test. I am also going to be buying a membership to our local shooting range for practice and some fun. Cheers!

Good Day, all:
I have a non-computer friend that is relocating to the Carlyle/Kenosee Lake area, and is looking for a rifle range (preferably long-ish) and handgun club that is a reasonable distance away.
Can anyone give me some info to pass along, please?

Howdy,

New to this site. In Regina and spend sometime on the rimfire range north of White City. Wouldn't mind getting some pointers.

Hi all . new to this site. Got posted out here in May (cfb moose jaw) so would like to become a club member where they have a nice outdoor 100yard plus range. PM me if any meetings etc. Would like to stick to the moose jaw/regina area.

also I am a avid hunter so looking for places and people to hunt with in saskatchewan.....

Finally got my PAL and picked up an SKS (cliche?). Not a total rookie to firearms but still pretty green and somewhat lost for locations where I could do some shooting.

Located in Saskatoon. Also see some familiar screen names from a local car club msg board in this thread.... (306MC)

Yeah I'm 85cutlass on there. We went out last weekend but only got 60rds through it. Once we got out in the open the weather was a lot crappier than it seemed.

New to the group and for the most part, firearms in general. I know some, but need to learn a lot.
PAL restricted + non is in the mail, starting to consider purchases and am honestly looking for advice, and someone to integrate me to the shooting groups in and around Saskatoon.

Also a car nut, mechanic by trade, and avid aftermarket modification follower. Same name on 306MC, actually.

Also looking for someone to potentially meet up with and go out to the range(s) with, I am in need of practice and I have no idea what Saskatoon+ area offers for outdoor ranges (prefer 100+).

Welcome,

There are a ton of guys in the area to get together with and I am sure we will be doing a S'Toon Beer night again soon. There are actually a good number of ranges in the area, but I think there is only one "range" that is past 100. It is the ranges on Det Dundurn and it is a 900m range. If you would like more info on the ranges there PM me and we can chat, I am an RSO for the club there.

Shawn

JonnyRockets on 306MotorClub - My Brother and I still haven't went for PAL / RPAL - For some reason don't much know where to start. I think we both would like to do a course, and hear this Jack guy is a good guy from that. Saying that - Maybe Jack is purely Hunting Course?

Got a pic of your SKS? Where did you grab it from / Approx Value?

Maybe also PM me with where you got your PAL - did you just challenge it, or do a course before hand? Where does one get the study Material?

Looks like WildLife Federation have some courses coming up in April. Gun Show is in March - would like to get them before that point. Might just go get the books from the Wildlife federation, Study and Challenge . . . I've heard a 'Jack' fellow mentioned a couple times . . .

Me and a fellow from work just went about two weeks ago and challenged our test. My coworker had originally thought that he had booked us in for the course, then we got there and they told us it was for the challenge. Neither one of us have much experience with guns at all or had studied. A fellow there named Darren was extremely helpful and gave us a quick rundown on need to know information and how to handle all the different guns. We both pasted our test so that was awesome. The written test is fairly easy for non-restricted, but there is some tough questions, I would recommend getting the books or on here I seen a link for the PDF files of the books, that would be very helpful.

Thanks for the info!

Hi all, I'm in the Moose Jaw area, I've got the long range precision bug, and the reloading bug... Both of which I would welcome the advice of a mentor... I am an experienced shooter and would be willing to introduce new shooters to the sport... I have a short range set up that is well suited for rim fire plinking... I have a couple of bolt action .22 one scoped one open sights, as well as a pair of hi capacity 10/22s with dot sights that are fun as hell to shoot at my duelling tree.. Just added a trap thrower to my list of toys also...
What I'm most interested at the moment is long range precision... Drop me a pm if u are in the area
