Mentoring

This year I am going to try still hunting for deer in BC. If you are in Lower mainland or close by. And serious about hunting send me a message. I am not an experienced hunter, can’t mentor. Looking for a safety conscious and fun loving partner.

Hello everybody,

This is a great idea! I have been hunting since I was very young in the UK but not since I moved to Toronto about 8 years ago. I have my firearms license, outdoors card and small game license for Ontario. I am keen to hunt rabbit, squirrel, ground hog, raccoon, coyote, some migratory birds, Turkey etc.. I basically have all the gear and nowhere to go, I also don't really know anybody that hunts and I am looking to make some connections, just to chat, get some pointers or maybe even go out. I am a very safe and responsible shooter, one of my proudest things that I have learnt from my father. I currently live in Toronto but will be moving out to St. Mary's (near Stratford) in about a month, happy to travel! I will be working on some private land permissions, but for now any pointers on some crown land spots for small game would be awesome and met with great appreciation! No need to share your fav deer spot ;)

Looking forward to hearing from you, cheers!

hey CGN, so this is my 2nd year as a hunter. its hard to find people to learn from or anyone to talk to in this hobby. just looking for people to chat with or hang out and learn what i can as youtube gets kinda boring and i dont use facebook. i also enjoy plinking as a past time and still looking for a great spot. lets see how this goes

Hey all,

I am hesitant to do this but....here goes. My teenagers have no interest in hunting. Otherwise i wouldn't be doing this.

I own a woodlot located a couple hours west of Ottawa. I practice Quality Deer Management (thought the QDMA). There is little hunting pressure surrounding the property. Consequently, there are some trophy sized bucks on the property. I am looking for a hunting apprentice/partner.

I need help clearing shooting lanes, building a blind, and cutting firewood. I've been busy milling logs for the cabin siding and haven't had the time. Don't fool yourself, this is not a free hunting spot. Work needs to get done! In exchange for this help I would let you bow hunt weekends (while I'm present) or possibly have the first week of gun season!

Also, I am also looking for someone interested in hunting raccoons. I recently met a dairy farmer that has 1000's of acres of land in eastern Ontario who does not routinely give hunting permission. After chatting him up for a bit he's willing to let me help him with his raccoon problem. There's so much feed available around the farm(s) that they avoid all traps! These will likely become a night time hunts.

I'm hoping to parlay successful raccoon hunts into a new geese/turkey/deer hunt spot for next season. I'm hoping to do this in late November or early December.

At the risk of this sounding like a personal ad, I'm mid forties, married, laid back, and easy going. Consequently, this likely won't fly if you're in your twenties (unless exceptionally mature). Likewise, it won't work if you can't walk a couple of kms or I have to sign you out of extendedcare. Youtube experts need not apply.

(Insurance through CSSA or OFAH (with proof) required)

Please note, I am looking for one person. I am not interested in renting out my cabin to individuals or groups. I am only interested in people from Eastern Ontario (Ottawa area) as we will have to meet before I make a decision.

Thanks to all that PM. Please note that I will not respond to every message sent.
That is a very fine offer. I received a lesson in Raccoon hunting from a team mate last winter. If we were closer I would give you a call. I hope you find the right fit.

I've been looking without success, but are there any mentoring programs (or people willing) in Nova Scotia? I just finished getting licensed up, and even have an antler-less deer stamp, but no idea how to get started other than some really vague "advice" from some hunter friends.

Thanks

Anyone in the BC province, willing to help out a newbie interested in hunting? I reside in the coquitlam area.

Thanks = )

Hello SOAW. I am at the same situation as you were at the time your post. How are you doing now? Did you get any help/info?
I’m from Niagara region but don’t know any place to go or someone to mentor me. I’m going everyday to Stratford for work, but I would be more than happy to find a spot for rabbit hunting or any other small game hunt in the area.

Hey Greenjeepguy100, are you still looking for someone for the raccoon hunt? I might not live in the area but I’m willing to take a week off for that purpose :) Recently got a .204Ruger and I would be more than happy to use it on those mischievous raccoons. I have most of the equipment but I’m open to any suggestions on what I need for that type of hunting.
Thanks Fuse,
I hope to find the right fit too. I've had one promising reply where someone is interested in the raccoon cull as well as the deer hunting opportunity. But mostly, people are only looking for a deer hunting spot. I'm still hoping to parlay the raccoon hunt into new geese/turkey/deer hunting opportunities merely one hour east of Ottawa.

Anyone willing to mentor a new-to-Canada-regulations hunter? I’ve been hunting for years but never did here in Canada. I’m in the Niagara region but I will travel if needed. Have my small game and conservation fishing licence.
Any help/ info will be appreciated.

Hello!

I am a new hunter in Calgary, Alberta, just did my course this winter. Interested in big game small game, waterfowl upland anything!

I am experienced in firearms, just looking for someone to get me started out there and maybe show me some field techniques. More than happy to reimburse or reciprocate somehow! I own a car and my own gear. Will travel.

I am in the GVRD and am keen to learn small game hunting this spring, as I have a wonderful Savage Mk 2 G I'd like to take out. This would hopefully include dressing and cooking. What I can bring is my aim, my sense of humour and my knowledge of 1950's and 1960's American television; also ammo.

well.... my hunting partner is going to be in europe for the first half of the fall 2019 season...... I really want to hook up with someone or a group for "in the rut" elk hunting.... I am a novice elk hunter.
I am hoping a more experienced elk hunter might be up for another experienced hunter to tag along. I would love to learn to call elk from someone who has had success.
I've been hunting for 25 years, primarily cariboo/chilcotin and thompson mule deer, coastal high country black tails and moose in region 6. I've hunted anterless elk in february with success but it's not the same as open season in the fall.
I have a couple absolute honey holes for mature bucks I'm willing to share with the right person in return for showing me the ropes Elk hunting.
Of course, this applies to BC hunting and on that note, my stomping grounds are the 100 mile house area.
Long shot I know but thought I'd throw it out there ahead of the fall season and LEH entries
I'm very well set up as far as roughing it goes, full camp set up, grizzly atv, 12ft boat and 9.9, recovery gear ect ect ect

Hi from the Okanagan, BC!

I'm new to hunting, went out last October for an Elk hunt with a group of four, we harvested two (I didn't shoot as they had LEH). Got to help skin a couple Elk, as well as help my bud breakdown his fresh kill - was a very cool experience! I also went out deer hunting for a handful of days with a bud and a couple times solo, found sign, but no luck on sighting a buck.

I'm hooked, love just being outdoors, exhilarated each time I find tracks.

My preference is still hunting, love hiking up high... I'm not much of a fan of road hunting... I'm mid forties, somewhat in shape, very interested in ethical hunting, abiding by fair chase, and since I'm fresh off getting my CORE last year, sincerely following regulations... which unfortunately I have seen first hand isn't a norm for everybody...

I would love to join an experienced ethical hunter who wants to pass on some knowledge with an eager, mature learner who has a deep appreciation for this survival art. My main hunting goals for 2019 is to successfully hunt moose or deer, possibly sheep if I can take the time away. I currently have only one firearm, a 30-06 rifle (Ruger American) and I'm really thinking about getting into a savage 99 or Enfield No 4 Mark 1 to work on accuracy shooting with sights for brush/woods hunts.

I'm a husband, father, and-self employed with some flexibility to do multi-day hunts. My ultimate goal is to be able to sustain my meat from only wild game for my family. I'm not into just killing things, however I have no issue with purposeful harvest, pest/varmint control or predator management – which also interests me and I'd like to learn more before taking on that challenge.

So far my only research is watching youtube videos, internet searches, podcasts, and watching Meat Eater on Netflix every chance I get :)

Cheers!

Josh

Hello guys,

I have had my WIN and hunters education for 3 years and have only hardly used it. My goal in mind when I decided to get educated was hunting was mule, whitetail and elk. Sadly I have not yet been big game hunting.

About me: I'm 36, physically fit, conservative, target shooting for 8 years, RPAL, black badge, IPSC novice, quality 30-06 or 308 rifles, respectable shot, have processed animals on the farm, camo, safe, dedicated and reliable

It is daunting to navigate the tag lottery and select a WMU and hope it all goes well. I could really benefit from the advice of anyone who has hunted east of banff national park and west of calgary. Even if your not looking to take me hunting, I would welcome the input. Thanks.

Glad some people think it is easy to ask for help to go out hunting! I've been asking that same question for the last 4-5 years and only had ONE person offer to take me out for turkey.
Maybe it is because I am an older hunter who can't always get out or maybe its because I am in a wheelchair and NO ONE wants to be bothered or waist their time on me.
Either way you look at it there has to be able bodied hunters available to help not only the noobs but the older ones as well!
