Mentoring

I am a newbie, who is looking to learn how to hunt. I am in the Capital region district, (at uvic). I am hoping that there are some old timers out there who are willing to take a student under their wing.
I am a decent shot, using a 45/70 lever gun. I am looking to hunt pretty much anything.

i would love to have a mentor too, i have gone turkey and bear hunting so far, i didn't even see any turkey but i had a guide for my bear hunt and harvested one on my second day. I learned to field dress carry and butcher a black bear in the pouring rain.

newb from vancouver bc. looking for a mentor. PM me if interested in taking on a very willing student. I already have all my numbers and rifles. And I am a good shot. I also teach outdoor survival.

I am in the Nelson BC area but willing to travel. I have asked five or six hunters and they all say that is a great idea but no one is willing to teach newbies (or give up their secrets I guess).

Good idea!

While I'm still waiting on PAL stuff, I should be ready for this fall/winter no problem. I'm usually in the GTA area for school, but have family in the Renfrew/Ottawa Valley area. Both my dad and brother hunt, but I can't always get up here. That, and they're both mainly interested in deer - I'm pretty much up for anything - deer, bear, turkey, waterfowl, upland...if I can eat it, I'm game.

I'll toss my name up too - Victoria newbie. Been hunting for three years now but pretty much only ever hunted on my own or with other inexperienced people. The two times I had a day hunt with someone experienced I learned a ton, everything that would take years of mistakes and coming home skunked for weeks on end to learn on my own.

Even just going scouting in a random area and learning what to look for and what signs mean what would be appreciated. Books and videos just don't really translate well to something as hands on and variable as hunting in my opinion.

P.S. I'll be hunting this fall in the lower island area, so if you're a newbie I'd be willing to share what little I can, at least a range day or two.

I am coming too, just to let you folks know. I have to make sure wally is gonna shoot straight...

Hi All,

I'm new to hunting as well. I have no family to learn from so I've been out on my own for one season. I've been practicing shooting a lot so I'm fairly confident out to 100 yards or so. As I'm in Chilliwack that shouldn't be too much of a limitation. Anyone interested in showing me the ropes would be rewarded in beers!
I've alot of outdoor experience already.

Cheers!

Hello,

I'll be taking the hunter safety course on August 22. Hoping to get out for small game during the fall/winter season. Perhaps someone in or around Halton region might be interested in letting me come along on their hunt.
Shooting the game isn't the problem because I tend to hit what I'm aiming at. I would however like to do some hands-on learning as it comes to cleaning/prepping the game once I have it.

I'm looking for someone to let me on their land in the Outaouais QC region. I would like to hunt for small game (grouse, hare/rabbit and coyote). I would like to walk the land (no ATV) and won't be hunting with dogs. Thanks for any offers. I'd like to stay within 2.5 hours drive of Ottawa, but hunt on the QC side.

LF goose mentor in Ottawa

Hey there,

I'm interested in trying my hand at goose hunting this year. I've been hunting large game in northern BC for 15+ years but since moving to Ottawa a couple years ago I can't help but notice the thousands of geese sitting out in fields everywhere I look. The last few years I've managed to convince myself that the learning curve/effort of finding private property, etc, is too much and I've just stuck to bowhunting in Marlborogh forest while dodging the "orange army" during the rifle season (I still can't believe it's only 2 weeks out here).

If there are any experienced goose hunters (or duck even) who would be interested in mentoring someone new to the sport, feel free to send me a message. I'm 30 years old, responsible, safe. I picked up a layout blind last year, but I have not decoys or calls at the moment.

Keith.

Hey All,

I am looking for an experienced hunter in New Brunswick who wouldn't mind taking out a new hunter for deer, bear, duck and goose. I am by no means new to shooting, but have next to no hunting experience. I am 32 years old, so I'm a late starter, but very eager to learn. Thanks in advance for any responses. Cheers!

I got a couple replies, but nothing ever came of it. I guess I'll have to do it the hard way (trial and error and error and error...)

Ya noone's replied to me either, so I might try this year to see if I can figure it out, otherwise it might be bye bye deer hunting for me. After trying unsuccessfully to find a mentor or a place to go hunt for 8 years, I have a feeling it's not gonna happen.

Looking for somebody to introduce a newb to hunting, I have taken the courses and am ready in that respect. Have a 30-06 and 12 guage. I live in Calgary and will be willing to travel 2-4 hours...... keeping my fingers crossed....MOVED to kitscoty, AB now, close to Ll.oydminster
