mini 14's

I don't know why this myth persists, you can get 5 round factory mags for $30 all over the country.
Any run of the mill ar15 mag is at least 26 bucks. M14 mags are 40 bucks each. A sig 226 pistol mag will run you 50 bucks. Hell a piece of s**t savage mkii 10 rounder is 22 bucks.
The only ones that are expensive is the 5/20 and 5/30 ones. Which are as pointless as you can get as you can only put 5 rounds anyhow.
30 bucks for a center fire good quality ruger mag is NOT expensive by any comparison to other types in this country.

$50 at my LGS if and when they ever have them in stock.
havnt been in stock for a looooooong time tough.
last time i picked up mags i ordered 10 from i think it was Marstar, that was a pricey hit on the old wallet.
whenever i go into a gun store i always check for mini14 mags and i never find any.
granted, i only go in maybe twice a year.
so the myth persists because its real would be my opinion on that.

I bought a few dozen Ruger branded 5/20 and 5/30 from irunguns last year. Worked out to about $55 shipped for each mag. They aren't as common as STANAG mags but finding them isn't a big deal. Seems like every gun store I have ever been in has at least had 5/5 mags in stock. The pricing is usually a better reflection of the store than the popularity of availability of the magazine's themselves.

The Tapco Gen II mags are supposed to be pretty decent. I have seen them under $50 a number of times. The Ruger mags are a little pricier than buying STANAG mags, but I would venture to say that the Ruger branded 5/30's are some of the most robust magazines available for any autoloader.

My 5/5, 5/20 and 5/30 Ruger mags all feed exactly the same; perfectly, flawless. The 5/5s stay in my range bag, I hate changing those little tiny things. The 'salt clipazines are worth the money for me. They up my street cred and make mag changes much faster and easier.

I use the Tapco Gen 2 mags in the Mini 14 when I am down south. $16 US each for 30 rounds of 5.56 fun and they work fine. A little more expensive than the Pmags which run $13 US.

5/20 and 5/30 mags for the mini 14 are like balls on a dildo....pointless.....now imagine the cost of having the balls on the dildo raised the cost from 30 bucks to almost 100 lol ;)

The 5 round mags are all over the place and cost around 30 bucks.
Those mags are not expensive even in comparison to other guns and they can be found easily enough.
Hence once again the confounding myth of the rare and expensive mini 14 mags that simply isn't true.

Pointless? Seems like Magpul sells millions of 5/30 STANAG mags here in Canada. Some folks like the option of having them.

I bought the top of the line stainless in about 1981 or 82 (close to $500.00 I think). Paid a lot in that old money; least accurate POS rifle I ever owned; sold it at a loss, and will never ever have another one. Ever. First cold shot was OK; by the time you put 10 through it, it opened up to 10" at 100 yards. Soured me so much, I will never own another ruger as long as I live. My SKS shoots way better than the mini-14 ever did and I paid under 200 for it in today's money.

I had a similar experience. I have wanted one since the days of Hannibal and B.A. Barracas. About 10 years ago a buddy let me shoot his stainless model with synthetic folding stock......LUNCHBAG LETDOWN! The thing was so front heavy I didn't see or care where the shots went. I swore off them then and there. Flash forward to two weeks ago, at a buddy's house and he lets me shoulder one of his THREE minis. This one was also stainless with wood stock and would be of 1980s vintage....beautiful balance. Now I of course have the bug again but no $$$!

I much prefer extended magazines for faster, easier mag changes and drawing from mag pouches on a chest rig. Especially with gloves on. Besides, the balls act like a ranger plate for better grip, especially on the bigger ones. Its all about tactical advantage.

Hahaha
I guess if you're into the tactical dress up stuff yeah I could see them having an advantage to have them stick out of your mag pouches.
That aside though.

Pointless to me but I don't walk around my range with tactical gear.
5 rounds is all you can put in them so it was a matter of cost efficiency; anyhow I don't give a jolly #### if you guys stick a 2000 dollar pinned 5/290 round solid gold drum mag on your ninja rig, my point was mini14 mags are 1. Not hard to find and 2. Also no more expensive than any other rifle mag
Carry on. Don't get your dicks in a knot boys....

i have a 582 series in 5.56
tinkered with it a bit to see what i could get for accuracy.
hogue stock , adjustable gas block (really tames ejection ) leupold vxr 1-4 scope & had the barrel threaded to accept 1/2x28 muzzle devices.
currently has an AGW 5 prong flash suppressor.
rifle is absolutely reliable & groups inside an inch at 50 yards with hornady steel match 55gr.
i can't ask for more from this rifle.

How do you like the Hogue stock? I was thinking about getting one for my 583 mini.....

Anyone try the barrel strut stabilizer ?
I'm happy with the way mine shoot but have been thinking of getting one for my early gun .

I bought the Accu-strut for my 583 but haven't installed it yet so I really don't know how well it works. It is supposed to help the older models a lot better than the newer 580+ series. If it doesn't make the gun shoot any better at least, IMHO it looks good.
