THIS isn't good! Deer & moose have a hard enough time surviving with predators around, THE LAST THING we need is to be protecting predators with a ban on hunting or trapping them!

The Ministry of Natural Resources went with the shortest possible comment period on the Environmental Registry, 30 days, and made a quick decision without adequately considering the thousands of public submissions received.

They did the same wrt the previously banned spring bear hunt & bear numbers EXPLODED. Bears became a nuisance, and in many cases a real danger! The same will happen with this pea brain idea to protect predators, mark my word.

Cheers

Over 10,000 responses to the last EBR posting and most are supposedly against the listing. The listing of the "Algonquin Wolf" was done in June by Cossaro based on a flawed study done by MNR Biologist that has since been refuted by their peers.

The name is made up to cover a Coyote/Eastern Wolf Hybrid.

100 years ago there was no "eastern coyote" in the regions now covered by the change in the Ontario regulations. So while they have been "out west" for many many years, they are a "relative newcomer" to Ontario.

I suspect they are including coyote in the wolf regulations because many people, including many hunters, can not tell the difference between a wolf and a coyote (even the hunting regs in Ontario treats them pretty much as "the same thing" as far as seasons, quota's, tag requirements if any, etc).

And yes, just like the changes to the Moose regs, this was a done deal long before they asked for anyone's input. But hey - "they consulted"....

The decision was likely already made, "consulting" the public was just lip service, and CYA.

Time for a 3-S program.

Yup. It's already done this way in the majority of the province. So now we'll just add a few more counties to the list.

The MNR are truly retarded.

Yes.

They arent thinking about coyotes, they're thinking about the Algonquin wolf, which is very difficult to distinguish from a coyote at times.

Every bit of this "species identification/hunters can't tell the difference" stuff is pure fiction. Two separate independant studies by U of T and Trent University biology departments thoroughly refuted one previous study known as the Theberge Paper which OMNRF has based this dubious ban upon. Make no mistake. This is the provincial Wynne Liberals interference caving to the animal rights cadre of the party, pure and simple. These a**holes are fooling nobody.

Exactly, the EBR is nothing more than another useless service provided by the government to say "we consulted the people" (but we aren't listening). The population of deer and moose are already down and the folks at the MNR are part of the problem, they couldn't run a plug up a dogs arse IMO.
