Modern Lever Build - Sanity Check

What if the overall length was always less than 660mm?
I don't think that matters, because it isn't mentioned in the CC definitions:

restricted firearm means

  • (a) a handgun that is not a prohibited firearm,
  • (b) a firearm that
    • (i) is not a prohibited firearm,
    • (ii) has a barrel less than 470 mm in length, and
    • (iii) is capable of discharging centre-fire ammunition in a semi-automatic manner,
  • (c) a firearm that is designed or adapted to be fired when reduced to a length of less than 660 mm by folding, telescoping or otherwise, or
  • (d) a firearm of any other kind that is prescribed to be a restricted firearm; (arme à feu à autorisation restreinte)

The definitions are at the beginning of Part III - Firearms and other Weapons.

The reason the RH is NR is because it doesn't fit the definition of restricted posted above. If you add a folding stock it then fits the definition of a restricted firearm as described in (c).

You are correct, none of it makes sense. Most likely because it was poorly written by people that don't understand what they are regulating.

Thank you for that. Guess a folding stock is out. My build is going to look a lot like the OP's in that case.

ooh, interesting, it's the R92, with 3" more barrel, but tempting given the 25% lower price
The best deal is the Citadel R92 from RDSC for $1100.

My Rossi looks virtually the same as the Citadel only I had to build mine at greater expense.

Then I'm planning to remove the wood from the mare stock, and modify it to fit as the handle for the Ranger Precision stock to preserve the "wood" look". Could look at stripping and staining the wood further down the road as well, but I kind of dig the look.

Remove the sights, put in plugs to hide the notches, then add a picatinny rail for a red dot

That stock is not compatible with the Henry Brass receiver, I don't think RPP has any stocks that are compatible, sent them an email, waiting for confirmation. CONFIRMED

Now considering at a pre built S&W. 16" barrel, or back to the R95

Honestly, they are all very similar in performance. I don't get the massive price differences. A $3000 lever gun aint gonna outshoot a $1000 lever gun. The extra dough would be better off spent on an optic and a whole bunch of ammo.

I just don't want a "cheap" gun that I'm gonna want to sell in a few years because I don't "love" it. I'm in the buy once cry once camp.

But it's hard to tell what's "cheap" these days and what's not. The S&W seems way over priced based on the feedback I've read about. So back looking at the Rossi TB R95 Mare, waiting to see if RDSC can get the RPP furniture for it as they don't have it listed on their site.

Ordered the R99 Triple Black Mare's Leg in 357 with Ranger Precision furniture. Should get it in a month or two, RDSC didn't have the Mare's Leg handguard in stock.

I'll post some pics when I get it done.

I was considering the R92 but prefer the side eject, smoother action, and more importantly the faster barrel twist rate for heavy subsonics of the R95...

Google says, "The Rossi R92 Triple Black in .357 Magnum features a 1:30" right-hand (RH) twist rate. This slow twist rate, designed for the 16.5-inch threaded barrel, is optimized for standard-weight to slightly heavier bullets, with reports indicating it handles 125-grain to 190-grain projectiles well."

I run subsonic 158gr in my R92 rifle and they work just fine. More weight does not meaningly increase terminal performance for subsonics.
