Modern Sporter - Build Discussions

I wish i could afford some lighter parts, Im pretty sure we could get these down to 6lbs if money was no object. But I think that would sacrifice reliability depending on what your intended use is.

I think you're right. I've bought some of the lighter stuff and if my math is right it should be sub 6 lb with optic.

These are going to be the nicest built rifles in the country. Can't wait for the MS picture thread to start.

I got the MRA 18.6 pencil barrel, but I'm second guessing my choice. Maybe I should have gotten something like the Faxxon Gunner or a carbon fibre version.

Most times I go shooting I'm hitting steel targets between 50-150 meters away, 3 x 10 round mags in a minute or so might have too much of an effect on that thin barrel? Never had a pencil barrel before, so don't know for sure.

All right, i’ll Play. After much assistance from Shaun at ATRS we have come up with a pretty mean MS.

MRA 5R Match 18.6” Stainless .223 Wylde Barrel
MRA Hyperfire Hypercomp 556 CQ muzzle
MRA 15” V1 Handguard
MRA Pincer .750 Gas Block
MRA Black Nitrate Rifle Length Gas Tube
Brownells M16 NiTi BCG
Timney AR Calvin Elite Trigger
Geissele Charging Handle
Strike Industries Dust Cover
V Seven Titanium Ion bond Satety (Black)
BAD Enhanced Takedown Pinset
BAD Standard Mag Release
Ergo Suregrip
Magpul CTR Stock (Black) - Milspec

Can’t thank Shaun enough for all his help and patience while helping me with this build. These guys are truly the best in the business. Customer service is top shelf - it’s a true please to work with these guys!

Not gonna lie, this wait is killing me...

Still not as bad as the SLR wait though

I'm hoping my Fortis forend comes in by the time the uppers are done. I need it so they can Cerakote it, the lower and both uppers at the same time.

ok.

MRA 5R Match 18.6” Stainless .223 Wylde Barrel
Surefire procomp (Looking for a Warcomp)
Rainier Arms Match BCG
Rainier Arms Rifle gas tube
SA SS adjustable gas
BCM KMR 13"
BCM LPK w/ PNT Trigger
JP SCS spring
Magpul PRS Gen3
Nikon Black FX1000 4-16x50
Nikon Black 20 MOA one piece base

I tried to make it the same lower setup as my AR15, so i can transition smoothly between the two. Only difference with the lower and my AR is the PRS stock.

Yay lists, I wanna play. Although not as fancy as some on here.

Faxon 20" gunner barrel
Precision armament m4 72 brake
Brownells lightweight nitride bcg
Superlative arms adjustable gas block
Odinworks 15" lightweight handguard
Geissele ssae trigger
Geissele maritime bolt catch
Ergo parts kit
Magpul acs stock
Magpul miad grip
Pws buffer tube
Cobalt kinetics buffer system
Bushnell elite tactical 1-8.5 in a warne mount.
And probably something else I'm forgetting.

I was trying to avoid adding up the cost...lol. Rifle only $3450. Should be 5.4 lb without acog.
Trying to get my hands on a carbon fiber buffer tube which would save a couple ounces. Then last thing I am waiting on is a titanium LAW folder. no timeline on those yet.

For anybody wondering how things are going on the uppers... They're going great now. Tentatively, and subject to change, we will likely be taking the first group of uppers to anodizing next week.

If you aren't sure what you're looking at in these pictures... After they come out of the mill Gabe checks them over and buffs the flats for any large machining marks then hands them to Matt, they are then wet tumbled for 45 minutes in ceramic media and then he's been sanding, filing and course blasting them before I hit them with glass bead blasting for their final finish before anodizing. Then we wrap each one up, take them out to the front for inspection. If any marks are visible, they go back through the process.

My barrel and bcg will weigh more than your whole rifle. Impressive what a guy can do when he does his research and finds what's he is looking for.
